The Only One

God, she was gorgeous. Every inch of her, every line, every curve was perfection. Geordi La Forge couldn't help but stare.

She winked at him, and his breath stilled in his throat. He could hear her whispering to him, though she never said a word.

She was the reason he had never married. Geordi was startled to realize it, but it was true. Yes, he had dated, he had loved, but always his thoughts returned to her. She was his life, his reason, and he couldn't leave her, couldn't betray her. In any sense that mattered, he was married to her.

The thought made him laugh. Married to her! He could just imagine the off-color jokes that would fly around the crew if her ever spoke of her like that. But his thoughts of her were no less tender for it.

There she was, in all her shining splendor, glittering against a backdrop of stars. Geordi looked down at his immaculately clean and pressed dress uniform, feeling grungy and unkempt by comparison. Who was he to look upon such beauty?

His shuttle crept closer, closer. Ah, to be with her again…

The shuttle landed.

Geordi stepped on board the Enterprise, and was home.
