Cato had always had a thing for Clove every day while in training he would get yelled at by his trainers because he always got distracted while she was throwing knives. He believed that she thought he was invisible. So The day of the reaping he knew that the next day he would go up to Clove during training and tell her his feelings for her. Then came the Escort's voice asking for any female volunteers and he heard the voice that he knew as well as he knew the back of his hand call out "I volunteer as tribute" it was Clove and he couldn't believe it and he knew that he had to go with her to protect her because she had to live.
Then came the Escorts voice asking for any male volunteers and before she could even stop talking Cato yelled "I VOLUNTEER!"
While they were on the train on the way to the Capitol. One night Cato snuck into Clove's room. Then as he came into her room he was sneaking to the side of the bed he hit his foot on a cabinet and right then a knife flying at him and nicked his ear. "Sorry, Cato you startled me, you know not to do that to me cause you have to remember I always have my knives" Clove said as she grabbed her knife.
"How are Clove, I know we have been training since we were 12 years old but I'm still scared I can't face the idea of us dying." Cato said.
"I know me either I wish there was a way for both of us to live" Clove said.
They talked till about 4 in the morning and finally they fell asleep holding on to each other.
They didn't get much time alone together till one night during the Hunger Games while Glimmer and Marvel were sleeping, they snuck away and went on a walk while out there Cato said "you know there doesn't have to be only one pair of star-crossed lovers."
"I have loved you ever since I first started training, your big bulging muscles and your deadly swordsman ship." said Clove.
"I never even thought you knew I existed I have loved you too since you started to train, you are the best knife thrower ever and when I heard you volunteer, I knew I had to, too, to protect you cause I don't know what I would do if you died." Replied Cato as they were talking they kept getting closer and closer and now they were chest to chest and as Clove soft lips touched Cato's and they kissed passionately for about 5 minutes.
They never left each others side till the day of the feast and they decided that Cato would patrol the outer rim and Clove would watch for Katniss. When Katniss went running for her bag Clove jumped on her and cut her and Thresh threw the rock at her and she screamed for Cato. After Katniss and Thresh had left Cato got there and Clove was laying there with little life in her.
"I love you Cato, you have to win and kill that Katniss girl." Clove said as she breathed her last breath.
"I swear I will kill her for you or else I will die trying." Cato said with tears filling up in his eyes
