A/N: This is another one-shot based on my other one-shot named 'Mental Prison'. It is the day that Mello had his worst breakdown and Matt witnessed it.

Includes some Mello/Beyond Birthday friendship, and Matt/Mello.

I hope you enjoy! Review!

"Mr. Keehl..." It was one of those days Mello had absolutely no intention of interacting with anybody or reacting to anything.

Besides whatever was coming from his own world.

His own little world.

The one he created.

Filled with memories.

Like those he shared with Beyond Birthday.

"Hey, Mello..." Mello turned around to see Beyond.

"Hey, B." Beyond was actually one of the very few people Mello was close to. Besides, his roommate, Matt.

"I wanted to ask you..." Mello looked slightly uninterested.

"Yes Beyond, tell me."

"Did you try to stab Near yesterday?" Mello sighed.

"Here's the difference, I threatened him I would, and I would certainly enjoy to continue threatening him, but the Roger walked on us and thought I would actually use the knife. Which I might have used, but not stab for real, you know. Maybe some small scratch." B sighed.

"No, Mello. You don't understand. I don't care if you'd actually stab the fucking albino or not." For some reason, a smirk formed on Mello's lips.

Maybe it was that Beyond and him shared the same hatred for Near.

Maybe that his instict was telling him that something interesting was going on.

Maybe Beyond wanted to team up and terrorize Near together that time.

He was in for a fight.

"Then?"

"Mello...If you'd stab Near, hypothetically, where would you stab him?" That caught Mello off guard and he narrowed his electric blue eyes.

"What the fuck, B?"

"Just tell me. Would your intention be to just watch him bleed to death or get something out of it?"

"Are you asking me if I'd do it for personal satisfaction or for other reasons besides that?"

"Technically, yes. I can't explain it any better." Mello could see B's red eyes widening slightly, as if he was longing to hear the answer.

"I suppose, our rivalry will never end, and my hatred for Near is rather huge. So, I'd love to see his little face in pain and begging me like 'Mello, please, don't, I beg you.' I'd force him to be emotional, the thing he hates the most. And the best part, is that he'd be emotional in front of me." Mello hadn't even realized he actually thought that way.

That sickly.

"Oh." Beyond looked slightly disinterested.

"Is that what you expected me to say?"

"I didn't expect anything, honestly."

"Your question seemed to be pointing to a certain answer, that obviously I didn't give."

"I don't know, Mello. I really don't. I suppose we think similarly, but not completely indifferently. I can't tell you me exact thoughts."

"Beyond. Tell me." B lowered his head.

"Remember that day I forced you to help me cut that rat in four pieces?"

"Yeah. It was so fun when we threw the leftovers from the window and all those idiots started screaming."

"That's not my point." B sighed as he sat down next to Mello, small raindrops starting to fall. "Mello, I have more faith in you than Near. I know I am not supposed to say this, we are all L's heirs, it could cause trouble. But honestly, Near lacks in action and action is everything. So, are you ready for some action? Something that Near could have never done?"

"Of course, B. I always am."

"I want you to do me a favor. Well, as well as I know, you know too that you have an inferiority complex."

"It's not a complex. It is merely that I want everybody to understand that even though Near gets better grades, I have better abilities than him. He simply doesn't deserve to be L's heir."

"So us, who deserve to be his heirs, shouldn't we cooperate as much as possible to help out each other?"

"Yes, Beyond, we should. Get to the point."

"I want you to help me leave Wammy's House for a few hours. Six to seven."

"How will we do that? How is that even possible without Roger noticing it?"

"Beyond..." Mello whispered, and looked at the blurry figure in front of him.

"We will attack Near physically. That will probably get us grounded." His voice had started to fade out.

"I'll get the bat. Why do you want to go out though? I'll come too. I hate being stuck here. I'll tell Matt too." Mello said and smiled at Beyond.

"No, Mello, no one else can come. Not you, not Matt."

"I think it's worsening." The psychiatrist told Matt. They were both sitting at her office, looking at Mello who was sitting on a tree branch, playing with his rosary and talking to himself.

"I can't stand to watch this." Matt whispered.

"Who is Biyondo Basudei?" Matt froze.

"Has Mello ever mentioned that name?"

"He keeps on asking for you, but he also repeats that name and that Near you have told me about."

"Beyond used to be his friend. He ended up in prison, since he was mentally unstable and committed murders in order to experiment."

"I suppose that this affected Mello's personality quite a lot. You should have told me about this earlier." Their conversation was interrupted by a loud screech, to the point even though it was coming from outside, it could be clearly heard.

Mello was growling and nailing the ground sobbing.

"M-Mello." Matt whispered.

"It happens a lot. I told you, he relives memories. Once, he called me Matt too. Now I think of it, it has happened more than once."

"Give me the gameboy Matt." The psychiatrist looked at him and smiled.

"Here you go." She pretended to hand over something and surprisngly, Mello took it and started 'playing'.

"Thanks, Matt. It's the first time you gave it up so easily." Mello looked up and smiled.

"Have you two ever shared anything more than a simple friendship?"

"What?"

"Matt, have you and Mello ever been in a situation that could be considered romantic or sexual?" Matt sighed.

"Go away."

"No, Matt, I won't go away."

"Will you ever stop being a dumbass? Why are you being such an asshole to everybody?"

"Near's fault."

"Well, no Mello, not every single thing in this world is Near's fault. Take responsibility for something, just for once. I don't really care how you treat the others, but since I consider you my friend, I want you to treat me the same way."

"I'm sorry, Matty."

"Don't 'Matty' me. You're not sorry, Mello, you never are."

"I was just outraged-"

"You are always outraged!" Matt turned around and punched the wall angrily. "You punched me in front of the whole class, Mello. Just because I tried to hold you back. Because you didn't have the guts to punch Roger for real, who defended Near."

"Matty, I'm sorry. I really am. I wasn't thinking clearly-"

"Do you ever?"

"I'm a genius-"

"I will keep on cutting you off until you say something proper. Until then, I'll go to my computer."

Mello's lips crashed on Matt's before he even took the first step.

And Matt didn't pull away.

Instead, he started deepening the kiss.

"Yes, we have been romantically involved."

"This explains a lot. He seemed to be talking about you in a more romantic way than a friendly one."

"I see." Matt glanced at Mello. He couldn't stand to watch it. He absently opened the window.

"Matt..." The psychiatrist mumbled.

"Let me go! I'm fine! I-I'll kill you all! I'll fucking shoot you! Beyond! Matt! Matty! Where's Matt!? Beyond, run! Fuck you all!" Mello sounded completely incohorent, and did some pitiful attempts to crawl away as two nurses who rushed out of the building to the outside tried to tie up his hands while he was shaking and turning around on the ground.

"Mello!" Matt shouted from the window. That immediately caught Mello's attention, who turned around in a matter of seconds, along with the nurses. Mello's bloodshot eyes, filled with tears and rage focused on Matt. Matt just smiled warmly, and slightly sadly.

"Matt!" He replied loudly eventually, his voice cracking as he calmed down. Matt waved.

And then it happened.

"Now!" The nurse shouted and brought out from her white pocket a sedative injection.

"No! Fuck, no! I'll kill you! You are all Kira's little bitches, aren't you!?" Mello's eyes were still turning to Matt at times, looking at him desperately as he kept on trying to crawl away, falling face forward to the stone ground, obviously hurting his head..

"Godammit..." Matt mumbled and after glancing at the psychiatrist, stormed off.

He had to go to Mello.

By the time he got down there, Mello was out of hand. There was blood all over his face and he was shaking badly. The nurse was still holding the injection but had slightly lowered her hand, as Mello was in no position to hurt anybody.

"It will be fine. Breath." The second nurse tried to help him, as Mello was obviously struggling to even breath properly.

"I'll rip your throat. I'll bath in your blood, bitch! I...I..." Mello was growling. He stood still for a few moments, and completely silent and then tried to hit his head again to the ground succeeding the first time.. Matt panicked to the point he couldn't move but suddenly the urge not to see Mello hurt even worse, overcame him.

"Mello...Mello, you don't want to do that, do you man?" Mello stopped as he glanced at Matt who had caught his face right before he crushed the ground again, helping him look up. Mello's eyes from full with emotions went to completely emotionless and unfocused.

"Why am I...in prison? Why did these stupid women send you and B away? Why does my head hurt?"

"You aren't in prison." Matt tried to hold back his tears. "We are in Wammy's House. You just came first at the latest test. Near is third. I'm second. Beyond is with L, they didn't send him away. They are together now. As for your head, you got injured while we were climbing up that tree." Matt pointed at the tree Mello was sitting at previously. Mello's facial expression changed into a peaceful one as he collapsed on Matt's arms with the nurses around him.

"Did I beat him?"

"Totally, Mells. Totally."

"And will B be back soon?"

"Of course. As soon as L lets him come back."

"And you?"

"I'm not leaving, Mello. Never."

"Will I be L's heir?"

"You are far superior from Near, of course."

"And B?"

"Don't worry about B. You two can cooperate. Like you used to, remember?' Mello nodded as he closed his eyes.

"I remember." He mumbled breathlessly before going completely unconscious.

"Get him to the infirmary. Now. You should have sedated him as soon as you noticed he was out of control."

"Matty?"

"Yes?"

"It's cold."

"I know, Mells."

"Give me your jacket."

"Hell no."

"Matt, I'll take it by force if I have to."

"I thought T-Shirts were fine? You are not weak, as you said, cold is something don't touching you."

"Of course they are fine. And of course cold can't affect me."

"Then?" Mello was shivering. "Here. Take it." Mello took the jacket and lowered his head.

"Do you think it is really B? The murderer?"

"You should know better than me. You're his friend."

"I think it is." Matt glanced at Mello.

"Doesn't that...bother you? Shouldn't we mention it to L?"

"It will not count as proof, us saying so, and...I think very highly of L. We'll know if it's B or not without my help. One day, I'll be solving cases like this alone, I won't just help."

"You avoid answering my question. Doesn't it bother you?"

"Killing is in human nature. And Beyond is human. Like I am."

"Would you kill?"

"If it had to do anything with me inheriting L's title or my life, I would."

"You know that if you ever need anything, I'm here, right?"

"Don't be cheesy, Matt. And I am here too. I can kick your ass anytime you want me to."

"Same. And one day, I'll repay you for today. Covering up the fact I hacked the computers. Y'know, it...just...Thanks."

"I hope you repay me one day. That endless lecture from Roger would probably cost my sanity if it went on any longer and you'd kick me out of our room. Or the opposite."

"Don't be overdramatic, Mello."

"You started being cheesy first. And seriously...if I went crazy, would you still be my roommate?"

"Of course. You already are a bit, it'd be no difference. But yeah, I'd still be with you. I only care about computers, games, and you."

"I only care about chocolate, beating Near, and you. And becoming L's heir, of course."

"I suppose it is a deal then. No matter what happens, we live together. We can both put aside our 'noble' goals for now and shut up so we can relax and enjoy the silence."

"I'll kick you if you ever tell me to shut up again." That night Mello and Matt kissed for the second time.

And that kiss was a promise.
