Six small words you've heard all your life. "Your life flashes before your eyes".
He always heard it. That's what was supposed to happen when something horrible happens to you. Those 'what if' or 'if only' thoughts run through your mind. Those last regrets and final sins pop up and you ask forgiveness. He had thought about them a lot in his life.
If only he had stayed by his mother's side, maybe he could have said goodbye. He could have finally told her how he truly felt about her, how much he loved her and would miss her in his life. Instead, he was running around looking for a cure. He would never have the chance to bare his soul to one of the only women he ever loved.
If only he hadn't let his father get to him, he could have kept Pamela in his life. She had been right. Even after the meteor shower, she never treated him any differently. She loved him unconditionally, just as his mother had. Instead, they both let his father bully them into unhappiness.
Then there was his father. God knows how he could have changed him. And he hated to admit it but given time, he was sure he would have found something, anything, for his father to be proud of him for.
And what about Clark? Clark, his only best friend. He knew he had secrets, everyone did. But he never actually got to tell Clark how much he valued that friendship or how grateful he was that Clark had the impossible talent to be anywhere when he was in trouble. Even Lana and Chloe and Pete. Even their odd interaction was important in his life. It made him feel like he belonged.
And then there was Helen. He loved her. He knew he did. How was their life going to go? Happiness? Children? Bitterness? Divorce? Never know now.
Lex Luthor looked out the window of the cockpit. The plane dropped like a stone straight to the water, sulfur and smoke filling the cabin. He thought about those six words. And given the opportunity, he would like to find the person who started this rumor and punch them. As he stared at the cold, black water rushing up to meet him, only one thing came to his mind...
Oh shit.
