Scarlett and the Wolves
Seventeen year old Scarlett wanted freedom from the yelling and anger of her family, so she ran away from home. It was a cold night and a fog hung over the ground. She ran through the forest until she stumbled across a cabin.
"I'll just go inside for the night." Scarlett walked slowly up onto porch of the cabin. She heard a twig snap, and suddenly she was on the ground with someone on top of her.
"What are you doing?" Scarlett growled.
"Protecting the gang from spies," said a boy around her age.
"What gang?" she asked curiously.
"I can't tell you anything," he replied gruffly.
"Please just tell me. I promise I'm not a spy," Scarlett begged.
"Fine, but if you're lying to me, I promise that you won't like what will happen next," he said, caving. He stood up and helped her up.
Inside the cabin were about fifteen other teenage boys and girls.
"Thomas!" yelled a girl who looked around eighteen. "What do you think you're doing bringing a stranger here!?"
"I'm sorry Jess. She said she wasn't a spy," Thomas said, cowering a bit.
"Who are you?" Jess asked Scarlett. This girl was obviously the leader of this group.
"The name's Scarlett," she said. Jess' face showed shock and joy at the same time.
"Scarlett," she breathed.
"Um, do you know me or something?" Scarlett asked nerviously.
"Nate! Come upstairs; we need to talk," Jess said urgently. The two teens ran up the stairs. Scarlett heard a door close. She turned to Thomas.
"Can you please explain what is going on? What is this gang and why all the secrecy?" she asked, trying not to freak out. Sighing, Thomas began to explain,
"We call ourselves the Wolves. Jess leads us; she tells us that we are training for a big mission. She's been waiting for a special person that will signal the start of the mission. It looks like that special person is you."
"How am I supposed to help you on this so called 'mission'?" Scarlett asked.
"There is a group of people who want to destroy all humans; our mission is to stop them. You have to kill their leader," Thomas said gravely.
"What!? I can't kill anyone!" Scarlett said.
"It's for the greater good and Jess will teach you the skills you need to know." Before Scarlett could say anything else, Jess and Nate walked toward them.
"I assume Thomas has cleared everything up," Jess said.
"He did, but I'm not going to kill anyone," Scarlett replied.
"Oh, you will. Let's get you started on your training."
After about a week of working out and target practice, Scarlett was ready to do her mission.
"Tonight a bunch of famous business owners will be gathering at McCray's mansion. The one they call Colonel Mustard is the one you need to kill. All you have to do is go into the banquet hall and after dinner stall him until everyone else has left; then kill him," instructed Jess.
"Got it. Go in, wait, kill," said Scarlett confidently. She was wearing a black dress and her straight red hair was lying at her shoulders. Her revolver was hidden in her black leather purse. Thomas drove her to the mansion in the stolen limo.
The mansion was old and had many long, empty hallways, but Scarlett eventually found her way to the banquet hall. There were five people already seated at the table. A servant came and helped Scarlett into her chair.
"Ah, now we can start. Let me introduce myself," said the man at the end of the table. "I'm Colonel Mustard."
"Nice to meet you. I'm Scarlett."
"Well, Miss Scarlett, it's nice to have you here," he said, but it didn't sound very welcoming.
"Thank you," she said politely. During dinner she learned that the names of the other people were: Professor Plumb, Miss Peacock, Mrs. White and Mr. Green.
"If you'll excuse me, I have some things I need to work on," Col. Mustard said, getting up and leaving the room.
"I think I'll go too," Scarlett said. Her plan was failing; maybe she could follow him to his study and kill him there.
Scarlett followed Col. Mustard down a long series of turns and halls. When Colonel Mustard finally entered the study, Scarlett reached into her purse for her revolver, but it wasn't there.
"So close yet so far away," Mr. Green taunted behind her, holding her precious weapon.
"Excuse me?" she asked innocently. The stout man grinned.
"I know what you want to do, and I can't let that happen." Before Scarlett could do anything, Mr. Green pinned her to the wall and pointed her revolver to her head. Now it was Scarlett's turn to grin. She ducked down, grabbing Mr. Green's arm and grabbed the weapon. He shot, but ended up only putting a hole in the wall. Scarlett now had the revolver. She grabbed a candlestick that was sitting on a nearby table and whacked the man in the head. Mr. Green crumpled to the ground unconscious.
After a quick survey of the hall, making sure it was empty, Scarlett ducked into the study.
"Ha. Ha. Ha." Colonel Mustard laughed slowly. "Think I didn't know about your little plan, Miss Scarlett?" he asked menacingly. Scarlett remained silent. "Seriously no one gets pasts me," he continued. The man had a knife, but Scarlett had the advantage with her revolver. She aimed and quickly shot the Colonel. He fell to the floor. Scarlett grabbed the key to the study. She locked the door to delay anyone trying to find him and ran out of the mansion.
"Did you do it?" asked Thomas back at the cabin.
"Yeah, I did it," Scarlett said like it was nothing.
"Now our mission is complete," Jess said.
"Wait, why did the rest of us train if Scarlett was the only one doing anything?" Thomas asked, getting upset.
"You trained for this," Nate said, opening up the door. On the porch of the cabin stood a deadly looking Mr. Green.
