Years Later: A Finchel story

Introduction

After leaving Lima for New York I haven't been back since. Lately I've been wondering how everyone been. Well minus Kurt and Blaine seeing as they are my roommates as well as married. They keep trying to get me to go back to Lima for a weekend at least. I keep telling them that it's too hard. The last time I was back I heard that Finn was engaged. I couldn't face him after hearing that. It nearly broke my heart. I was utterly shattered.

"Rachel, hurry up or you're going to be late." Blaine said knocking on the bathroom door. In between auditions and shows I am still working at the diner. I work there with some of my friends including Kurt and Blaine. At this point they are more like family. Though thinking about it they really would have been if things had been different. I took a deep breath because right now I didn't really feel like crying. Mostly because it would make me late for work. I out the door after saying goodbye to the boys. Shortly I was to the familiar diner that I took Finn to when he was here in New York. I regret more than anything my fling with Brody. It cost me more than I will at least admit out loud. "Good Morning!" I say as I put a fake smile upon my face. Just like I do every morning. "Oh Rachel you're here finally here the manager wants to see you." Brittney said. Santana and her were also married and where living in New York. We saw them on a regular basis. I went into the back and knocked on the door. I faintly heard a 'come in' from behind the door. "Ahh Berry you're here finally. There is a customer asking for you. He's at table 3 he has been here for an hour. He wouldn't be served by anyone else besides you. So good luck." The manager said waving me off. I went back up front took a deep breath and grabbed a pad of paper as well as my pen before heading to the table. When I saw who it was I was speechless. I almost fainted. "Rachel are you okay?" Santana asked walking up to where I was. "Tana did you know that it was him?" I asked looking at her straight in the eyes. I knew that she wouldn't lie to me. "Rachel just go talk to him. What's the worst that can happen?" Santana asked and she was right. "Hi welcome to callbacks what can I get you?" I asked. "Rachel cut the crap. I know you are shocked that I'm here am I right?" Finn asked as I shook my head. "How's your wife?" I asked putting my pad away knowing that he wouldn't be ordering anytime soon. "What are you talking about?" Finn asked looking genuinely confused like how he was when we were in high school. I took a deep breath before answering his question. "When I was home in Lima last someone told me that you had gotten engaged so I assumed that you got married since that was 3 years ago." I said as I crossed my arms. "Rach who told you that ?" Finn asked looking very upset. "Why does it matter it's in the past!" I exclaimed turning away from him. Which somehow got him out of his seat. "Do you know what I've gone through just to track you down again?" Finn asked as he was in front of me. I was looking anywhere but at him. "No, but we're in the past. Were we should be!" I exclaimed turning away from him. "You don't believe that." Finn said. "Finn you should go." I said walking away from him to where the manager is. "Carson I know I just got here but I need the day please." I said at this point I was close to tears. "Of course see you in a few days." He said as I gathered my purse and headed out the door.

Meanwhile with Finn:

That didn't go exactly how I planned it. "How'd it go Finn?" Brittney asked. "Not so good didn't you see her leave?" I asked. "You mean you didn't tell her what it took to find her. And then you lose her again in less than ten minutes?" Santana asked. "You know you're lucky we know where she lives. But at the moment let her calm down. You don't know what the last few years have been like for her, She has been through a lot to say the least." Santana said. "But to get her to tell, you have to get her to trust you again. Which mind you is no easy feat. She only trusts those in the New Directions that aren't you. You have a lot of work to do." Puck said coming out of the back. Did everyone decide to move to New York?" I asked. "Most of us did after something happened that you are not at liberty to. Even if you are my best friend." Puck said coming up to me and giving me a 'bro hug'. "Good luck. Though we do suggest flowers. As you remember she loves." Puck started but I cut him off. "Her favorite flower is white lilies. In high school I would send them to her on performance nights. It was kind of a tradition. It was my way of telling her that I loved her." I said. "Well then go find the Lilies and head over to Kurt and Blaine's the three of them have been living together the last few years. She feels the safest with them for some reason. She doesn't even go home anymore because she doesn't feel safe without one of the new directions. has been asking her for about a year to be a special guest for the current new directions to no avail." Puck said. I don't think wining Rachel back was going to be as easy as I originally thought.
