Ryan POV:

I slapped the file down onto the coffee table then stood an paced in front of the couch. A hand ran through my hair, pulling slightly, while the other loosened my tie. It's been eight and a half years since I got a letter saying her mother was dead and she was missing. These past years I have been searching and looking. And her birthday is coming up. Again. She'll be 16. Her sweet sixteen. I smiled slightly at the thought then anger ran through me and I through a lamp at the wall with a roar. Where the hell could she be?! I've looked all over the country with the best private detectives but she just isn't here. As I looked back down at the photo of her in second grade and the sketch of what she might look like now on the floor scattered with other papers full of quick writing, tiny notes, little rumors, I let myself think for a moment that she might be... No. I shook my head vigorously. She is alive and I will find her. I sighed and just pulled the tie off and tossed it onto the couch as I gathered everything up from the floor and into the file. Walking into our bedroom that I shared with my wife Jenny, I laid them back into there hiding place under a loose floor board under the bed.

When Jenny came through the doorway with sleeping Sarah, she gasped at the lack of a lamp and me cleaning up fragments off the floor. Her eyes were as wide as silver dollars as she hurried to put our daughter to bed so she could question me. I sighed and dumped the last bit in the trash and she walked in. Her voice was a harsh and alarmed whisper, "What happened to my light?!" The shrill tone of it making my ears want to bleed. After all the other times, one would think they would have started to by now.

"I was tired and accidentally knocked it over." Effortlessly lying. She stared at me for awhile and I knew she didn't believe me. Her shoulders slumped then she walked back into our bedroom. I waited until she crawled into bed before I walked into the bathroom to get ready for bed. I caught a glance at the mirror and saw a desperate man. A mad man. My hair was stuck up in a bunch of places from running my hands through it or pulling at it. My suit was rumpled and a mess. There were dark circles under my eyes from the times Jenny and I had stayed up fighting or when a case didn't close till 3 in the morning. Sighing again, I walked out of the bathroom forgetting my shower and grabbed a pair of jeans, a black tee-shirt, and a brown leather jacket. Jenny's eyes followed me from the bathroom and back.

After I had changed with my gun still on my hip and phone inside my jacket, I headed towards the door and Jenny asked, "Are you coming back?" I didn't answer and walked out the door. Once i had exited the apartments, cold air splashed across my face. For the next hour and so, I walked around the city, watching the cars as they passed by. When I finally stopped, the exhaustion crept into my muscles. I looked around for any taxi driving by when I noticed where I was. Outside of Castle's building, I decided I didn't wanna go back. I glanced at my watch, 2:48, and decided that I need a place to sleep and hope Castle would be the one who answered the door. I could've went to Javi's but that was in the other total direction and he probably caught the hottie at the club he always talked about on his way home. He'd kill me for interrupting that. I rang the doorbell and waited for a while then banged hard on the door. After a moment when no one answered, I turned to leave but then the door opened to a very annoyed Castle and unamused Beckett. They both stared in shock for a moment. Beckett wore an overly large shirt that he guessed belonged to Castle and a pair of pajama bottoms. Rick however was only wearing a pair of shorts that looked rushed one. Both their hairs was mused in a way that one knew they weren't sleeping. Castle broke the silence first, "Ryan, I mean I know you love me but its three oclock in the morning." No jokes were coming from him.

Kate's face held concern as she asked, "What's going on, Kevin?"

Shruging, "I need a place to stay for the night."

"What about Jenny?" I didn't answer but she opened the door wider with a sigh. She pointed to the stairs, "You can stay in the guest room. It's the second door on the left." I mumbled thanks then walked upstairs. Alexis's head was poked out of her room from the commotion then scurried back in when she saw me come up the stairs. Ignoring Beckett's and Castle's stares on my back, I walked into the guest room then collapsed onto the bed. The room was as plain as anything in Castle's house could be. The walls were a light blue with light blue throw rugs on the dark wood floor. The bed was a large queen size with slate colored covers. The curtains covering the window were also the same dark grey as the bed. The was a dresser and vanity against the walls opposite each other. Across from the bed was a large TV that looked like something you'd see in a small theater. I kicked off my shoes and walked over to the window that was as big as the TV. Pushing the curtains aside, I looked over the city of New York. The view really was beautiful but my heart twisted at the thought of her being out there in the world. My daughter is gone.

"I will find her." I swore to myself. The same promise I made the day I got that call.

Hello. I've never written anything for the Castle fandom and I was wondering what y'all would think of the idea. Please comment your opinions. If you like it, I'll continue. If not, I'll drop it.
