It was a nighttime in the candy kingdom, there was nothing but silence inside its powerful walls, peaceful silence. The Candy citizens were sleeping soundly as the stars brightly shined above.

The castle was surprisingly silent as well. It's prince hadn't any interruptions all night and was thankful for such. Between kidnappings, accidents, and any necessary paperwork, it was almost IMPOSSIBLE to get a full nights rest in his own kingdom.

The welcomed silence, however, didn't last long...

KNOCK KNOCK

He groaned, pulling a pillow over his head to try and drown out the sound.

Geez! More work? Haven't I done enough already? he thought to himself

He reluctantly and slowly leaves the comfort and warmth of his bed and trudged his way to the door.

But when he opened it, there was nobody there.

Grunting, he closed it and made his way back to his bed.

KNOCK KNOCK

He was planning to ignore the strange sound, but then he realized something. It wasn't coming from the door, it was coming from the balcony.

Only a select few people, could be out there.

Carefully making his way to the balcony door, he pulled the curtains slightly to take a quick peak.

He expected to have seen Marshall, trying to mess with him again, or fionna and cake, perhaps with another emergency.

But that wasn't who was on his balcony.

"Marceline?"

Opening the door he stepped out to find the vampire queen patiently floating over the balcony in a sitting position.

"The one and only"

"What are you doing on my balcony at one in the mourning?!" silently shouting at her, trying his hardest not to wake any citizens within the area.

She looked down at herself, and let out a large gulp of air she'd probably been holding for quite some time.

"I need t-to talk to you about something"

"you wanted to talk? Why now?" he didn't mean to sound so rude, especially since what she wanted to talk about sounded important. He then noticed something peculiar about her, she looked sad and unhappy, unlike her normally playful and unserious persona.

She didn't answer, what was she supposed to say? She didn't really know why she was here either.

Regretting his last actions, he opened the door to let her in. " I'm sorry I-I haven't been getting much sleep lately".

Floating into his room, she sat on the edge of the bed. She was still in odd silence.

Closing the door behind him, he sat down next to her.

" what's wrong?" he was curious for answers, she didn't normally go to him about ANYTHING.

"bubs?"

"Mmhm"

"have you ever been in love with someone tha-that didn't love you back?"

This out of nowhere question caught him off guard, he started to stammer. " Wait you? wait-why what, uhhhhmm" his stammering, however, at least got a small smile out of the queen.

Realizing how ridiculous he must be looking right now, he settled down. " why do you want to know that?"

She turned her head in the other direction, refusing to give him any eye contact.

"Me n' Bonnie had another fight okay?"

He couldn't see her face, but he knew she was crying.

He slowly brought his had up to her shoulder, Trying to comfort her.

"What happened this time?"

" I-I don't remember, it just happened and-" She used her shirt sleeve to wipe her eyes and nose.

" and you couldn't stop..." He said finishing her sentence, a saddened tone in his voice.

"It was just, AARRRGGHH, I feel like a total loser right now"

She scooted on the bed and grabbed a pillow, pushing it to her face and falling back on the mattress.

"Marceline?! Whoa hey calm down, your not a lose-"

"YES I AM, I can't believe I wasted my time coming here to talk to you about this" She got up and headed towards the balcony. " I don't even know why I came HERE of all places, this was pointless"

" hey wait!" grabbing her arm, he turned her to face him. " Its nothing to be embarrassed about, okay?" The poor girl was distressed, he had to try and help.

"Your not a loser..." he put both hands on her shoulders " I-I 'did' or I... had"

His eyes wandered to the wall

" I used...to love fionna" He's never admitted this to anyone before, an embarrassed blush spread upon his face. " we were friends at first, but then I-I just...I wanted us to become more"

His lip was starting to tremble, he didn't like thinking about this, and he sure didn't like talking about it.

"But I was an idiot, I should've noticed the signs, I should've realized how she felt..., giving up on her was the hardest thing I ever had to do...not as a prince, but as a person"

he turned to lock eyes with her again " I know you came here for help, but...I can't, there's nothing I can do..."

She felt selfish, not that she'd ever let him know that. Man, this kid has gumption, telling her something this personal.

" I'm sorry I kinda barged in here and asked..." She said, apologetically. " I just, I just needed to talk to someone and- I couldn't go to anyone else"

She smiled a goofy smile" looks like we both have sucky love life's" She let out a sigh " I just wish...I wish I could be in a normal relationship for once"

" maybe you could go make up with bonnie?" he suggested

"I can't, she's still totes angry with me." Another sigh " maybe I should just give up with her..."

"what?! No! you and her have been going out for quite some time, you cant just give up" His thoughts rear back towards fionna " You can't.."

" its always the same B, we fight, we become friends again, we get back together...and it starts all over again" She stated. " We can't stay in the same place..."

Finally leaving his grasp, she hugged her arms and looked at the floor.

" I can't handle it anymore..."

She floated towards the balcony, but not before giving him a quick peck on the cheek " thanks bubbs... for listening".

" Marceline..." He says " I'm sorry about your relationship, and I'm sorry I can't be much help to you. But please don't give up like this...promise me you'll try...and if it ever happens again.."

" I'll come to you again" she smiled sadly, before sticking out her tongue and finishing her goodbye " I promise, and sorry for ruining your beauty sleep, cya prince gumbutt"

He smiled as she left through the balcony, just before the sun came up. " Gumbutt huh..." Glad to see her back to herself again, he hadn't felt this wide awake in a long time.
