Haleb week day 3 - Family.
My dear Caleb,
I see you pace near the stair, your impatience showing and the excitement growing. Has it really been this long ever since you proposed to me in our kitchen with Spencer and Toby as our witnesses?
Has it been so long since you and ihad the most amazingly talented children of the lot. Our sweet Alexandra, our stubborn TJ and our loyal Caroline?
Has it really been almost a quarter century ever since I first opened my house's door and let you inside to live in the basement. Our time together has been nothing but an emotional ride. And I suspect as you wait for Alex to come down those stairs the emotions will rise again.
Alexandra comes down the stairs and it's not just your emotions running wild beloved. Tears threaten to spill over my face as I take in the beautiful bride our duaghter heart clenches a little as I know just as surely as you do that our baby girl has grown up.
Gone are the years where she would crawl up in our bed because she had nightmares that only her daddy was capable of putting away. Gone are those rebellious teenage years when she refused to crumble under peer pressure because our Alex had always been your special girl.
You take her by the hand as we get ready to enter the church's aisle and as I take my place on the bench waiting for you to walk inside I'm reminded once more of the day we got married. It was such a simple yet beautiful ceremony. We were surrounded only by our closest friends and our families.
Given everything that had happened over with Mona and Allison and A we both felt like having some privacy. I don't regret it, because you made our wedding day so special, just like you make each of the days I was allowed to have you in my life special.
You reach the aisle and place Alexandra's hand into her groom's and I know, I just know, that this has been the most terrifying experience of your life. Entrusting our baby girl to someone else. Wathicng her become someone else's universe.
You reach the bench and smiled down at me emotion covering both our eyes. Our hands entwined as we watch our baby girl take her next step in life. And just like that you once more whisper to me that sweet question you asked me the day you proposed.
-"Together forever?"
-"Together forever".
