Her sapphire eyes gazed into the distance; she seemed to be in a stupor. I pressed a gentle hand to her shoulder.
"He's gone, Kagome. He had to go."
"I know, I just…"
"It's going to be ok; you will always have his memory in your heart."
"I at least wanted to say good bye," she said.
"We all did, his brother was cold until the very end, but you were always there for him. At least he will take over the things we can't do. It's what he would have wanted. You were Inuyasha's whole world."
Kagome quietly sobbed, and let out a miserable groan. I could see acceptance, grief, and worry in her beautiful eyes. I enveloped her in my arms, as silent tears fell.
"I will always be there for you, no matter the circumstance. Inuyasha's last wish was for Sesshomaru to take over his position, and for me to take care of you. He asked me that, because he knew where I stood. He knew that I'd never abandon ya. C'mon, we've all been friends for years, Kags. You know the truth in my words." I gave her a smile.
The sun set, with her curled in my lap, and a sad start down a long road of healing.
