A/N: It has come to my attention that I am an insomniac. Most of my writing is done after midnight, and no matter how hard I try to sleep, I just can't. This is something that came to me around four this morning, I just couldn't shake it until I had written it down. The plot bunnies are evil things, they used to be so cute and cuddly, and now they have grown long fangs with which to bite me if I try to get away. And they're multiplying! Llike friggin'...well, bunnies! Anybody want one? They're adorable as babies.... :)
Jack loved early mornings with Carter the most.
Those were the moments he treasured, when she would sit up on the bed, swinging her legs over and just sitting for several moments, staring at the floor. Preparing herself mentally for the day.
Her blond hair sticking up adorably in small tufts all over her head. Even now, carrying their baby, she looked beautiful. That pregnancy glow making her eyes shine, her cheeks just the tiniest bit pinker. Motherhood suited her.
He sat next to her on the bed and reached for her, intending to rub her back, but Sam stood and shuffled out of his reach.
Picking up her cell when it rang, Sam took a deep breath.
"Morning Daniel." she managed through a yawn. Ever since her third month, Daniel made it a point to call her at least three times a day to let her know he was there if she needed anything.
"You've stayed longer than you should have." the voice from another part of the room startled Jack, he turned to see Oma Desala sitting in Sam's favorite chair. Tearing his eyes away from his wife and unborn baby, Jack crossed the floor to Oma.
"You said I could stay as long as I wanted. I want to see the baby born, then I'll go back with you." he told her quietly. Sam chatted with Daniel in the background, unaware of the two in the room with her.
"The others see it as a sign that maybe you are not ready to ascend yet. You are still tied to your people. They want you to leave now." Oma replied gently. Jack looked back at Sam as she smiled at something Daniel said, her free hand rubbing her swelling stomach.
"Now?" he repeated.
"Yes."
"Isn't there some kinda' loophole? I know you can do it, you guys let Daniel go back. Why can't I?"
"Daniel Jackson was rewarded with his mortality once again."
"Yeah? Well I'm the one that has saved the planet on hundreds of occasions, doesn't that hold any water with you people?"
This time, Oma smiled at him.
"I had hoped you would say that. I can return you, but you will have to find your own way back to her. You will remember enough to search for her. It is your choice to do so. It will not be easy." She explained.
He looked to his wife, having heard the phone shut and Sam place it on the table once more.
"Up and at 'em, Carter. The General wouldn't want you sitting in your room and moping all day, and you did promise the baby a walk this afternoon." She murmured.
"Do it." Jack pleaded.
Oma took his hand in her own, and the two were gone.
