There's someone moving in. Felix knows because he's the handyman, and it's his job to check every empty apartment before someone moves in.
What he doesn't know is who his new neighbor will be.
The residents are all middle-aged and the building's free of teenagers. Which meant no graffiti, no deliberate damages. Therefore he is quite when his new neighbors comes into the building-
A tall lady, obviously younger than he is, holds a little girl's hand as they open the door. The woman's blond, with peek-a-bangs and a towering and surprisingly muscular body. The girl's entirely different, she is tiny and has shiny ebony hair in a ponytail. She's chatting to the woman-her mother, perhaps?- and she bounces whenever she sees something interesting. That happened to Felix and his brother Ralph when they come out of their apartment-
"Hey look Sarge! That guy's huge!" she exclaims, pointing at Ralph. "And that," she gestures at Felix. "is one short guy-"
Felix isn't very offended- he knows he's short. But Ralph tenses up a little and cocks an eyebrow.
The woman gave the girl a look, then whips her head to face Felix: "I'm sorry, I'm sure Vanellope didn't mean to say that."
"I sure did!" the girl- Vanellope- calls. "And it's president to you, Sarge!"
Felix can't help but snicker. Ralph stares at him funny, but the woman apparently doesn't think it's worth the laugh. "Sir, I'll appreciate it if you don't encourage her."
He smiles meekly. This woman is certainly something. "Sorry, ma'am- or Sarge?"
Vanellope laughs, clutching her stomach. "Oh boy, isn't this awesome. Sarge?" She grins at the woman slyly. Ralph joins in, and Felix can't help noticing the way the woman looks at Vanellope. It makes her look very beautiful indeed.
And also not very happy.
Felix takes the initiative: "Ma'am, my apologies." He looks at Vanellope. "Girl, you gotta respect your elders."
Vanellope smirks. "Oh yeah, short lil' guy?"
"Oh yeah, kid." He says.
He looks up and sees the woman smiling down at him. A tiny smile that plays at her lips, but a tiny smile that threatens to make Felix melt.
"Well, see ya round, tiny mister," Vanellope gives him a pretend bow. She takes the woman's hand and she waves. "You too, big guy!"
The next day, Felix finds a note taped on his work table: Van's always talking about your brother or something. Wanna meet up some time?

He doesn't even bother to not allow his chest to swell with happiness.
