In the midst of his sleepy eyes, the map of the unknown city he was studying was blurrier than it ever had been. How was he supposed to find out what city it was when he couldn't even see straight? There was no point in looking for it anymore. At least, not at this hour. He wasn't going to give up, of course, but right now, he needed sleep.
He stretched his arms, yawning, and got to his feet. Blearily, he tried to find his way towards the door, but it was dark, and his eyes were unable to adjust to the pitch black darkness. Come on, Hitler, you can do this! If you can rule an entire country, you can leave a room! Actually, wait … I'm kinda hiding in a bunker … oh, shut up.
A sudden creak in the ceiling made Hitler skid to a halt. He looked around, frowning in uncertainty. What … what was that? The anxiety from the sudden noise made Hitler's heart race as he froze in shock, but silence followed. I'm just overreacting. He took another timid step towards the door, until he heard another sound, louder than the previous one.
Hitler took a deep breath. He looked around, hoping to see something - maybe the flash of eyes, or a shine of clothes. "Who's there?" he asked, his voice shaking a tad.
No one answered.
"Okay, Fegelein, go away!" Hitler snapped. "Go home! It's midnight! You shouldn't be up at this time, and don't harass me at this time! I'm tired!" He stood still, hoping to hear Fegelein's cocky voice, or see his smug smirk.
But he couldn't even smell his cologne.
Maybe it was Burgdorf.
"Boozedork, you stupid idiot, don't just hide there like a ninja and the shadows. Go home! I don't need you here in the middle of the night! Come on, leave me alone! I'll have Blondi chase you out of here if you don't leave!"
Nothing. Still no reply. And now that he sniffed again, there was no aroma of the booze that followed Burgdorf around.
So who could it possibly be?
"Günsche …" Hitler growled. "No, it can't be him. He's too big, I'd see him in a second, and he isn't smart enough to melt in the shadows like this person is doing. Skeletor?" He peered closer into the darkness, but Goebbels' sunken eyes were nowhere to be seen. "He wouldn't do that, either. Maybe Jodl would. But he would be able to see his shining, bald head." So who's following me?
He was just being paranoid. That's it. No one was following him - what person could get in here without being noticed? Hitler would've most definitely seen them for sure. With nervousness thumping in his heart, he turned around from where he had heard the noises and got ready to leave.
There was another thump.
"Okay, whoever's doing that, you damn idiot, stop it!" Hitler turned around and hissed. "You're annoying me and I'm about to kill you where you stand! Except I don't know where you stand, but I'll find that out!"
Suddenly, there was a heavy weight on Hitler, leaving him thump to the floor, and the whole world turned black.
