AN: This is day 2 of my 365 day Writing Prompt Journey! It suggested an Unrequited Love Poem, but I came up with a better idea for a story!
"Jasper," A far off voice seemed to say through the haze of my dreams. "Jasper!" Louder this time as the world seemed to shake. I opened my eyes to the sight of Monty's too-close face.
"Gah!" I sat up and pushed myself as far away as I could without falling off my bed.
"You were doing it again." Monty sat on the edge of my bed so we could talk at a reasonable volume without waking the rest of the 47. Well, the 46 that we could find. I solemnly nodded my head while pulling my knees up to my chest. Several times since coming to Mt. Weather, Monty woke me in the middle of the night telling me that I had been saying one name over and over again. Octavia. "Have you talked to Maya about it yet?"
"What would I say? Hey Maya, I think you're really cute and all, but I'm still in love with a girl that left me for a Grounder? Yeah, I think that'll go over really well."
"Don't you think she has the right to know?" I shrugged, not really wanting to confront my issues in the middle of the night, even though this probably was the best time to talk since Maya would be off elsewhere sleeping. "You know she really likes you, right? I mean really, really likes you."
"I know, and I like her too."
"But not the way you like Octavia." I nodded again.
"I swear; you know me better than I know myself, Monty."
"That's what best friends are for, right?" He leaned over and playfully punched me in the arm.
"Well, O Wise one, what should I do?" Still seated on the bed, Monty turned to completely face me, crossing his legs.
"I think honesty is always a good way to go." I snorted, and the person sleeping above me tossed in their bed. I leaned closer to him, attempting to be quiet.
"Cause we were always so honest up on the ark," I scoffed.
"Wasn't it your lie to the guard that got us locked up?"
"Hey, that wasn't a lie. I told him I was giving him what he deserved."
"And he got what he deserved."
"Nothing!" We said in unison. "Nice!" Again in unison. We each raised one hand in the air then high-fived ourselves.
"Seriously though, Jasper, you should be honest with her. She's a nice girl. She deserves your honesty." I sighed.
"And once again, Monty is right."
"And when am I ever wrong?" He smiled, sensing the time to be serious was over.
"Get off my bed, loser!" I pushed him to the floor, resulting in a resounding thud. Monty and I burst out laughing. Several people throughout the full room groaned.
"Will the two of you just go to bed already?" A voice called from the other side of the room. "You're gonna wake up the whole mountain!"
"Yeah, yeah. We're going to bed." Monty climbed back into his bed right next to mine. "Keep your pants on!" I could just barely tell that Monty looked at me and winked. We both knew that the particular voice in question had trouble doing just that since he got to earth. I smiled back at him as I lay down and pulled the soft blanket up to my chin.
"Hey Monty?" I whispered, hopefully not loud enough for anyone but him to hear?
"Yeah?"
"Thanks."
"No problem man." I heard Monty shift in his bed and let out a soft sigh signaling that he was almost asleep again.
As I slowly fell back asleep my thoughts drifted from what I was going to say to Maya the next day, back to thoughts of Octavia.
Please let me know what you think, and if you have any writing prompts for me! Keep it clean!
