First chapter notes: I'm aware that Kitty does not go with Kurt to the dance.I'm bending a few rules but this story is Kurtty so that's the way it goes!

bChapter one/Prologue/bbr -----

Kurt gazed at his best female friend, Kitty, as she animatedly described her 'exciting' day at school. She talked a lot, but he didn't mind-he loved listening to her. Often he would just look at her, appreciating her friendship. Kitty was a little ditzy at times, but she was innocent and soft-hearted. She, being a normal teenage girl, had been a little wary of him when they first met, but she quickly warmed up to him and he was grateful for it. He admired her, and deep in his heart, he loved her. He was too shy, however, to tell Kitty of his feelings, and instead valued the time they spent together.

"Kurt, are you listening? You look really out there. What about driving us home?"

"Huh? Oh yeah, sure!"

Kurt, embarrassed that Kitty caught him staring, quickly walked over to his car. It was actually Scott's car, but Kurt had amazingly proven to be a careful driver so he let him borrow it every now and then. Kurt loved taking Kitty home-it was time for them to be alone and laugh about things that had happened that day. He waited for Kitty to come and strapped himself in the driver's seat.

Kitty paused for a moment before entering the red sports car. She looked at Kurt, who was intently staring at the driving wheel. He looked so handsome just sitting there. She smiled to herself and got in slowly. As she sunk into the leather chair and slowly buckled her seat belt he turned around and smiled.

"Ready to go, Kitty?"

She nodded and watched his face as he pulled out of the parking space. The face she loved wasn't the one most people saw. Kurt's face was often hidden beneath his image-induced human body. She liked to picture the real Kurt under his holographic skin. Sure, she used to think he looked scary, but now she loved his blue fur. He was better looking than anyone she knew, but was too afraid that he'd laugh at her if she told him. In fact, she had told no one. Kitty was outgoing, but she was also shy, and there were many things she kept to herself.

As Kurt drove, the fifteen year olds complained about chemistry to each other and discussed the upcoming dance. Kitty giggled about Rogue wanting to go with Remy, and Jean 'not having like, any courage' to ask Scott. Kurt laughed with her, but inside he was nervous. He wanted more than anything for Kitty to ask him to the Sadie Hawkins dance. He almost crashed into another car when Kitty tentatively asked, "So, Kurt, has anyone...asked you yet?"

"Ah...no, not exactly...Vhy?" Kitty looked down, blushing. She was silent.

"Have...have you asked anyone?"

Kurt's heart pounded and his hands were warm. Kitty looked into his eyes. If she looked closely, she could see his actual yellow ones behind the inducer's image. She knew she had to ask him now, or she never would.

"Kurt...will you go with me?"

Now both hearts pounded. Thankfully, they were at the mansion, and Kurt was parking. He looked back into Kitty's eyes and managed a faint "Ja!" before breaking into a joyful and relieved smile.
