Jackal hadn't realized he'd fallen asleep in his clothes when his cellphone started vibrating in his jeans pocket. The floor of his room had lines of sunlight where the half-closed blinds let it through.
Fuck. Why in hell did I tell him when I was coming back?
Lack of sleep caused swears to slur themselves into his usually clean thoughts. Usually. If he was right, the second he picked up that phone his best friend was going to ask him to come over or go out somewhere with the rest of the Rikkai team. Whether or not he'd only just gotten off a plane and needed his sleep, dammit.
Knowing he'd regret it, Jackal flipped open his phone, Marui's infamous number displayed on the screen.
"Knew it," he grumbled as he pressed the talk button.
"Jack-chan, you're home right? I'm not actually calling you while you're still in Brazil?" Jackal rolled his eyes and ran his fingers through his hair. Yes hair. He'd grown it out during his vacation – partially due to the never ending begging from Marui and partially because the Nationals had ended, anyway. No more tournaments for a while.
"Hello, Marui. Yeah, I'm home but I'm trying to slee-"
"Cool. Can you come over her right now?" Jackal could hear a bubble being blown and popped on the other end of the line. Resistance was futile. He sighed.
"All right, be right over."
"'Kay, see you." Jackal didn't bother saying goodbye since naturally would have hung up without waiting. Naturally.
He just really hoped the rest of the regulars weren't waiting over there, too. He could handle Marui Bunta's sugar-fueled hyperactivity for a few hours, but he really could go without having his data collected by Renji, babysitting Akaya, getting stern looks from Sanada because he had to babysit Akaya, Niou's pranks, or…
…Yukimura and Yagyuu's… nice… ness.
Like hell I'm going over there. But he was already halfway out the door.
