The stench of blood was strong, the howling winds not diluting it in the slightest. It stained the once virgin snow, now ruined with hurried boot prints and bodies and streams of blood. At first it wouldn't stop flowing from the men, now it was the smell following him, despite the ground he had covered.

At one point he had been running from an army with 5 men along side him. Now he was alone, and it was the blood which hunted him. He had to get away; as much as he hated himself for doing so; he couldn't let himself become a part of that blood shed. He wouldn't allow it, he couldn't give in.

The rain and the cold couldn't stop him, he didn't feel it. He was running to the rescue point, not seeing the trees or hills he stumbled through, he was running towards Terri. A golden image of her painted in his mind as he continued on, Kim's laughter rolling through his mind, louder than the hellish weather surrounding him.

The bushes caused him to trip at times, but he would carry himself onwards, he had to get home. His family needed him and he realised maybe for the first time ever that he needed them too. And he wanted to be with them so badly…

He tripped again, pulling his ankle he fell face first into the thick snow, his own blood ruining its silky white pureness. He tried to stumble on but it was useless, the ankle couldn't cope and shock was settling in from the cold. His whole body shook and he realised he was still too far from the extraction point. He couldn't even crawl, the cold controlled him as he wrapped his arms tightly around his waist, trying to defend himself from the unrelenting rain.

With chattering teeth the images of his men took control of his mind, Terri and Kim replaced but not forgotten. He could see the explosion killing Drazen, then the shouts and shots as his team were gunned down. He could hear himself shouting for Stephen as he scrambled through the brush, realising he was missing. The guilt crept up as his family filtered into his senses again, with anger as he realised his last vision of them would be a memory. He closed his eyes as the pain became too much, he knew this was the end for him too, just like the team he had led to their deaths.
