Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter or any of the associated characters.
So, someone challenged me poetically... and I responded thusly with this:

Far away in time and space,
Transcending to another place
We peer through crystal balls keen
Upon a terrible, heart-rending scene
A man of stout will and desperation
Begs his wife to hide, clearly shaken
The door caves in below
For what purpose both do know
Wailing stirs the electrified air,
A sound of fear, he mans the stairs
Mocking laughter swirls about
Heart pounding fast, near giving out
'Touch not my son' he warily warns
His death so fast, he was not warned
The body bounces on the stairs
It does not matter, he's no longer there
She cries his name in anguished tones
The sound dying into desolate moans
Inwards does the Nursery door crack
A barrier broken, her face goes slack
It lasts a moment, a heartbeat of fear
The malevolent intruders smirk, drawing near
A choice, a chance for her salvation
To relinquish her only son without reservation
Her words are sharp, pointed, lethal
The striking refusal, borne of love, proves fatal
He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named strikes fast
Now a dead body lies in his path
An infant gazes, frightened, into his face
The filthy half-blood shall learn his place
His mind snarls, wand raised in determination
Death the curse upon his lips, utter condemnation
For the world to be his, this child must perish
The future, most bright, built on deeds so garish
A swish, a curse, the blinding of green
Should have been the last thing the child had seen
Though something went wrong, unprecedented
A backfire brought on by love, cemented
Voldemort jerks, his existence revoking
This new development, quite agony-invoking
His body fades as the child begins to cry
A single lightning scar above one eye
The destiny set, the die have been cast
A future is coming, born of the past.
