17. Blood.
A helmet, once crowned with bull-like horns, was crushed beneath a huge foot, the metal complaining before it finally broke apart in fine, uneven pieces and spread over the area.
It was as though the robust helmet was made from nothing more than glass, which that foot easily shattered.
The warriors Cosmos had summoned stared in disbelief as the Warrior of Light sank down on one knee, with his armor shattered and shield-arm twisted at a weird angle. The only God left alive, Chaos, chuckled. Towering above the man who struggled to get back up on his feet; the God's dark silhouette contrasted against the dark throne behind him, and his shadow fell heavy over the warriors.
The God watched, listening to the sizzling hot rocks raining from the sky as they tore into the earth on impact, inflicting great wounds upon the vast, dead landscape surrounding the elevation his throne stood on, and his chuckle turned into a straight-out cackle, as he enjoyed the coming end of the world more with each passing second.
Soon, he would be reunited with his counterpart.
"Why do you still persist?" Chaos asked the limping form before him, his rumbling, deep voice making the watching warriors leap forward, meaning to help their friend. The God made them stop with but a glance. "You will never defeat me, broken like this."
The warrior of Light steadied himself against his sword, his lips moving but no words passing them. He once again tried to move forward, only to fall face-down into the crimson dust at Chaos's feet, stifling a yelp of pain as his left arm connected with the solid ground.
The God of discord folded his four arms across his muscular chest, wings creaking like old leather. "I did not hear what you said, Warrior of Light."
The God and the other nine warriors of Cosmos waited for a long time before the reply was uttered between grit teeth: "We do not... have... much time..."
Firion grabbed for his bow instantly, desperate to end their struggle "I'll continue this battle, if you l-"
"Shut up!"
The weapons master took a step back when Light yelled at him, his confusion only showing through his eyes as their leader sat up and turned his head to glare at his companions.
"This is my battle, so don't you dare to interfere!" he yelled, once again forcing his body to get back up.
Chaos shook his head in annoyance, and with a mighty swipe of his tail he sent the paragon tumbling down the side of the elevation.
A/N: Yes, yes. I know, the end is rather abrupt. I am working on the next chapter, so if you decided to read this: it'll be up. Hopefully soon.
