Evanescence started up at the night sky, littered with twinkling stars and the full moon, who's light seemed to bathe her home. She closed her eyes briefly, saying a small prayer, then looked down at the razor in hand, who's wicked blade glinted coldly in the moonlight. It was meant to be her salvation from the hell of her life. Neo and Chamile had disappeared nearly a year ago, leaving Evanescence with her parents, who had started abusing her again, worse than ever before.

Evanescence raised the blade to her wrist, just below the scars of her first attempt. Just as the blade was slicing her skin, drops of crimson sliding from the wound, she heard a noise behind her that made her freeze from cutting any deeper.

Neo gently placed a leather-clad, clawed hand upon her shoulder.

Evanescence didn't dare look at him. She shut her eyes tight against the tears as a sharp pain in her chest rose and grit her teeth. Blood continued to ooze down her arm unnoticed.

"Evanescence..." Neo wrapped his long arms around her, forcing her to turn around as he held her close to his lanky, muscular form. "I'm sorry, Evanescence."

"Leave me alone!" Evanescence cried. At that moment, she couldn't hold it in any longer and she choked on a sob. Tears slid down her face. "Leave me again…leave me..."

"Shh…" Neo said soothingly. "There's no need for you to speak. I've missed you so. Just let me hold you for awhile."

"But I hate my life!" Evanescence sobbed, pressing her face against his chest, half-smothering herself. "I don't wanna live anymore!"

"I'm here for you now, don't say such things. You must hold on to your life, it is a precious gift."

"I don't care! Just kill me now. Please..."

Neo shook his head, his silver hair glowing with a ghostly sheen in the moonlight. "I won't. I won't let you go, no matter what! I love you with all my scarred heart. You won't get away from me that easily."

Evanescence breathed a subtle sigh and closed her eyes, letting the darkness overtake her, the razor slipping from her slackened grip.

Neo gently wiped the blood from her arm on his pant leg, then put his arm back around her, resting the side of his head on the top of her hair. "I won't let you go."
