Callie's POV
I woke up to the smell of coffee brewing. I could hear Arizona in the bathroom running the shower. I lay on my back for a moment looking up at the ceiling contemplating whether or not to get up. I'm not a morning person. I never have been and that's probably the only downside to my job. Having to get up at random hours in the night for emergencies was never a cake walk.
I rolled the sheets off my naked body, and slowly made my way to the bathroom. The mirror was all foggy from the thick layer of steam that filled the room. I opened the shower door, stepped in and quietly closed the door watching my girlfriend let the hot water run down her body. I grabbed the soap and quietly approached Arizona planting a kiss on her neck as I began to rub the soap all down her back.
She moaned as I kissed her neck down to her collar bone. I pulled away and looked down at her breathtaking face as she opened her piercing blue eyes.
"Good morning" She said to me with that classic dimpled grin.
"Good morning" I say as I finish washing her body and let the water rinse it off.
"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" I said to her raising an eyebrow, giving her my best seductive stare.
Arizona didn't respond, she just smiled and brushed her lips against mine. Our kiss grew deeper, more passionate and hungry the longer our lips were locked. I gently pressed her against the glass and proceeded to kiss down her neck with the biggest grin on my face as I knew that this time I wouldn't be interrupted by little Grey.
I continue to kiss Arizona's neck and collar bone while my hands are feeling the curves of her body.
"Calliope…." Arizona moans in my ear. "Calliope…It's not that I'm not enjoying this….cuz….this feels so good….but um….we…we have to get going."
I look at her with the surprise "Are you kidding me? I was just getting started. I barely did anything here."
Arizona gave me a soft kiss on the lips, opened the shower door, and proceeded to grab a towel to dry off with.
"mhm…well we are not done here. I am finishing what I started later tonight." I said as I grabbed another towel to dry myself off with.
Arizona's POV
I stepped in the kitchen to pour a cup of coffee for myself and for Calliope. When she finally emerged from the bedroom, I gave her a quick kiss on the cheek, handing her the cup of coffee.
"Here, drink this up because we have to go."
"MMM…..Thanks babe." She said to me pulling the mug away from her mouth and giving me a peck on my cheek.
We finally made it to the hospital, hand in hand as we ascended into the elevator. We weren't much more than a minute finished changing into our scrubs when we both got a 911 page to the ER. We looked at each other, and quickly dashed through the door.
Entering into the ER, we stopped dead in our tracks at the sight before us. There were dozens of kids on stretchers. Lacerations, broken bones, concussions, internal bleeders, you name it there was at least two of everything. Seems that on this day, a bus decided to lose control on the freeway and endanger the lives of the busload of kids on their way to a field trip. This was going to be a long day.
I assessed kid after kid, and my heart just went out to each and every one of their parents. I couldn't even begin to imagine what it felt like to kiss your child off to a school bus that unbeknownst to you would lead to an afternoon in the hospital praying for your child to be okay.
Surgery after surgery, suture after suture, we lost some, but we saved some. The one's we saved, almost made up for the ones we couldn't save, and that was a good enough feeling for me today. It was now nearly ten o'clock at night. My shift had finally ended. Calliope had already gone home, so I quickly went to the attending lounge changed out of my scrubs into my jeans and blue shirt that I wore to the hospital this morning and headed back to my Calliope.
Oh yeah….did I mention that I officially moved in with Calliope? I gave Cristina my apartment, which she gladly accepted without hesitation, and I moved in with Calliope. We've been together for a year now and we are going strong. We're even getting married. Although same sex marriage is not recognized in the state of Washington, we want to do this anyway. I am so excited. We've been planning for weeks now. Even hired a wedding planner who is awesome and I love her style.
Anyway, I made it to the door of the apartment, dug through my purse for my keys and when I found them, I placed the key into the door and went inside. Callie was sitting on the couch with a bottle of wine and was watching the news on the television.
I approached her and leaned in for a kiss. Her deep and dark eyes looked at me with content and returned the gesture by locking her lips with mine. "I'll be right back, I'm just going to change. And when I get back we need to talk about the wedding arrangements." I straightened my body up and headed for the bedroom. I changed into a pair of shorts and one of Calliope's tshirts. I sat back on the couch next to my fiancée and poured myself a glass of wine.
Calliope, wearing shorts and a tank top, inched closer to me her mesmerizing eyes staring at me seductively, she leaned in kissed me softly but it was full of passion and desire. I hated it when she did that to me, because she knew that she could get out of anything just by kissing me like that.
"I'm so tired from today; can we please just enjoy our evening and not talk about the wedding for one night?" Calliope said to me with loving, tired eyes.
"Calliope we have to make decisions about these things sooner or later"
"Well can't it be later? The wedding isn't even for 6 more months."
Just as the words finished escaping Callie's mouth, there was a knock at the door. Callie and Arizona looked at the door with a puzzled look on their face as they were wondering who could possibly be knocking on their door so late in the night.
Arizona got up off the couch and headed towards the door as the knocking continued. She unlocked the door and opened it to find a dark haired beauty who looked very similar to Callie dressed in grey sweats.
"Arianna! What are you doing here?" Arizona was in complete shock to find Callie's cousin standing outside their apartment considering that she didn't even live in Seattle.
"I'm here to see Cal. Is she home tonight?" Arianna tried to look through Arizona into the apartment in search of Callie.
Arizona quickly looked down and noticed that an army green duffle bag was sitting on the floor. Still slightly confused by what was going on, she let Arianna into the apartment.
"Arianna! Girl, what are you doing here?" Callie practically squealed at the sight before her. Putting her glass of wine down on the table, she practically leaped from the couch and pulled her cousin into a big tight bear hug.
"I'm here to see you…duh!" Arianna said with sarcasm.
Callie could see a look come over her cousin's face. She pulled away from her, just staring at her for what seemed forever. She knew that something wasn't right. That there was more to the story. That it was not just a casual visit.
"What's going on Ari? Why are you really here? And don't lie to me, because I can see right through you." Callie gave her cousin a panicked look that only created a lump in Arianna's throat making it incredibly difficult to drop the news that would change everything.
Arizona walked up to Callie and linked her arm around Callie's looking between the two Latinas with confusion and worry.
"I'm not sure you are ready to know this, because what I have to say will change everything. By everything, I mean the wedding, the entire course of your future kind of everything." Arianna's head dropped, staring at the floor to avoid any eye contact with the two women standing in front of her.
Callie lifted Arianna's head up so their eyes would meet, and with a stern look in her eyes and a stern tone in her voice she said "Ari…just say it. You flew all the way from Miami to tell me something important so you better just say it."
"We have to go back…..We have been ordered to go back." Arianna said looking deep into Callie's eyes.
"Go back where?" Arizona replied with confusion in her voice as she looked back and forth between Arianna and Callie, her heart beating incredibly fast.
"Back to Iraq."
Arizona's heart sunk to her stomach.
