Brothers
A/N: I was so anxious to know what happened to Peter and Nathan that I thought it out myself. First Heroes story.
Summary: The conversation between Peter and Nathan after they fly up into the air in "How To Stop An Exploding Man". Nathan's POV.
Disclaimer: I don't own Heroes or any of its characters.
"Nathan, why are you doing this?" asked my little brother, Peter, as we flew up into the sky.
"Doing what? Saving New York?" I said, even though I know what he was asking.
"No, why are you risking your life to save New York?" I stopped suddenly.
"Because you're my brother. I couldn't live with you being responsible for the deaths of millions of people, and I doubt you could either."
"Why didn't you let Claire shoot me? I wouldn't have died." I started flying again.
"I didn't want to see my daughter shoot my little brother." I coughed and started wheezing because we were so high up.
"Nathan, stop!"
"Why? What's wrong Peter?"
"You're going to kill yourself up here."
"I didn't plan on living through this." Peter stared at me with disbelief on his face. "Peter, stop looking at me like that."
"Nathan, I can fly too."
"What are you saying?"
"I can keep myself up here while you get yourself out of harm's way."
"Peter, I won't leave you. I refuse to let you go through with this on your own." I could see another wave of radiation pass through him and he held back a cry of pain.
"Nathan just go! I'm not going to die! I'll be fine, but you won't!"
"Peter, I'm not going to let you go!"
"I don't want my brother to die because of me!"
"Peter…!"
"Just GO! Go back to Claire and thank her for me." I saw pain shoot through my little brother's body. "Tell them I'll be fine and I'll be back down soon."
"If it will make you happy, I'll go. But I'm coming back for you after the explosion Peter."
"Fine, but go! Go now and go fast!" I nodded and turned away from him. As I flew off, I heard him scream in pain. I landed on top of a skyscraper and watched the explosion. As it ended I flew slowly back to where I left Peter. I saw him walking towards me and I held out my arms. As her got closer I saw his face. His skin was burned and charred, but he was alive. As he healed, he stepped into my arms and cried.
"Shhh…" I said. "It's okay. It's all over now. It's okay."
"Nathan…" said Peter. "You were willing to stay. You were going to die to keep everyone else safe."
"Yeah…what's so great about that?"
"You were the hero today. Not me."
"You forced me to go. You refused to let everyone else live but me die. You were a hero."
