The comet observatory lay high above planet Earth. It was a place where our heroes held meetings and occasionally lived in. At the current moment, the Smash Brother were calling a meeting to order. Mario was leading the meeting while six other members of the Smash Brothers sat around the meeting table; Link, Samus, Sonic, Lucario, Mega Man, and Shulk.
"I'm calling this official meeting to order," Mario began. "First, some news for those of you who haven't heard. The Mushroom Kingdom Court has just found Ganondorf guilty of crimes against humanity."
"Tell them what the immortal got," Shulk mentioned with a slug smile.
"Life in-prison," Mario declared. "Without any possibility of parole. A little new business. I want to official welcome the newest member of the Smash Brothers. By unanimous consent; Mega Man."
The members of Smash Brothers all cheered for Mega Man. He efforts during the Ganondorf crisis saved countless lives.
"Congratulations Mega Man," Samus said.
"Thanks everybody," Mega Man said, waving his hand to everyone. He sat down when everyone was down clapping.
"And now the man reason why I called you all here," Mario began as his smile disappeared. "In light of the breach of trust revealed to us during the Ganondorf matter, we should decide whether Link should remain in the Smash Brothers. All this in favor-"
"Wait!" Samus interpreted. "Before we vote, the accused should be allowed a few words in his defence."
"Second it," Shulk added, agreeing to Samus's terms.
"Ok," Mario agreed with. "Link?"
Link had not said a word during the whole meeting. Everything that could have happened to his team mates would have been his responsibility. But he was lucky.
"My actions don't require any defence," Batman boldly stated. "In the same situation I'd do it again."
The entire team was in uproar over Link's comment. Sonic slammed his fists against the table.
"You serious!?" Sonic yelled.
"As individuals," Link began with a stern expression. "And even more so as a group. The Smash Brothers are far too dangerous to lack a fail-safe against any possible misuse of our power."
"We use our power to protect the world," Samus explained. "We always have."
"And what if we ever used it for some other purpose," Link explained as he stood up looking down at the others. "If you people can't see the potential danger of an out of control Smash Brothers, I don't need to wait for a vote." Everyone looked at Link was hesitation. "I don't belong here." Link turned around and walked out of the room, the others in complete shock to what he said.
Link was configuring the Observatory's teleporter to send him to the surface, more specifically Hyrule. He quickly notice Mario walk into the room.
"Got a minute?" Mario asked trying to keep things peaceful between the two.
"What do you want?" Link asked, not wanting to be bothered. Mario walked forward.
"You made contingency plans to stop everybody of Smash brothers just in case anyone of us went bad," Mario explained.
"My contingencies were meant to immobilize, not kill," Link explained.
"But Ganon came up with the plan to bury you," Mario brought up.
"I assume so," Link explained while putting in the final coordinants. "It wasn't one of mine."
Mario stood there speechless as what Link had just revealed. He looked up to see a curious expression.
"Was this it?" Link asked.
"With all that talk about unchecked power, you're still so arrogant that you didn't come up with a plan to stop yourself?" Mario declared with a stern expression. Link looked at him with guilt because it was true, there was no official plan to stop himself if he ever decided to turn sides. He only had one non-specific answer.
"I do have a plan," he revealed. "It's called the Smash Brothers."
"Just wanted to be sure," Mario said as he smiled. He pulled from his pocket a small led box and handed it to Link.
"What's this?" Link asked as he inspected it.
"If the Smash Brothers ever did go to the wrong side, I want there to be someone I can trust to keep the planet safe," Mario explained. Link opened to box to find the radiating poison mushroom, Mario's greatest weakness. "Even from me."
Link inspected the mushroom. He quickly noticed that it's radiation was affecting Mario already. He closed the lid and walked over the teleporter. He gave Mario one last look before being sent away. Mario pressed the switch, activating the teleporter, sending Link to Hyrule. To two exchanged one last look before Link disappeared. Mario walked over to the windows as other Smash members walked into the room to join him.
