Just For Tonight

Summary: Jenny/Jethro. #2 in my 'Back In Your Arms' series. Just for tonight maybe they could pretend they were a normal couple, whatever that meant...

Thanks to everyone who reviewed 'Slow Dancing...' I'm glad you liked it!

The song is 'Just For Tonight' by One Night Only. Xx

"I brought you dinner." Leroy Jethro Gibbs announces, striding into the Director's office and setting down the two brown paper bags on the small coffee table across the room.

Jennifer Shepard smiles to herself, stretching her stockinged feet out underneath her desk, her high heeled shoes lay discarded a few inches away. She pushes back her chair and stands, her toes sinking into the thick, rich carpet as she pads across the room to where Jethro is setting up their dinner. The smell of Chinese food wafts over to her and she feels her stomach release a growl, it is only then that she tries and fails to recollect the last time she has eaten. Sometimes she wonders if Jethro is psychic, or maybe it's just that he knows her far too well.

"Thank you, Jethro." She says, taking a seat on the small couch and waiting patiently as Jethro finished setting out the food and going over to Jenny's cabinet to retrieve the decanter of bourbon.

"You're welcome, Jen." He says, pouring them both a generous measure of the cognac. "To be honest, you looked like you needed the break."

As Jenny's stomach rumbles again she laughs softly. "And the food." She agrees. She takes the carton of Chinese food Jethro offers her and picks up chopsticks from the table, tucking in hungrily. Jethro watches her with a faint look of amusement on his face as Jenny shovells the food away, he admires a woman with a hearty appetite and enjoys the fact that Jen was still as petite as ever even more. When Jenny senses him watching her she looks up and smiles at him.

"Do I sense an ulterior motive here, Jethro?" She askes, green eyes dancing as she picks up her snifter of bourbon.

Jethro feigns innocence. "No, Jen, can't ex partners have dinner together now and then?"

Jenny smiles. "Yes Jethro, they can, but you say that everytime we have dinner together."

He knows she has caught him out. "Open your fortune cookie, Jen." He says instead.

Jenny takes it from him and cracks it open, taking the slip of paper from inside she reads it, her trademark grin playing around her lips.

"Read it." Jethro prompts.

Jenny smirks. "Okay then, 'live for today because you never know what might happen tomorrow'." She reads and rolls her eyes. "Kinda lame." She concludes.

Jethro considers this. "I don't know, it sounds like good advice to me."

Jenny simply rolls her eyes at him. "Jethro," Whatever she's going to say is interrupted as Jethro leans over and plants his lips on her's.

The kiss is long and loving, not demanding. It is the kind of kiss shared between lovers who have the rest of their lives to share kiss after kiss. And for tonight, that was who Jenny and Jethro were.
