Gasping, she shivers at my touch but doesn't withdraw. Neither do I. It'll be alright. I have to tell myself, in the hopes of finding some measure of reassurance. Hoping I'm right, I twine her warm fingers with my own, granite & cold, & lean into her warmth. For now, just this once, it's okay… Okay to pretend that she's mine & I'm hers. It's for this moment I exist.
