Mine Forever Part 12
Ezra can't believe his ears. "You found them?"
"I've got their names and number right here. They still live in the Sacramento area."
"What are their names?"
"Tom and Amy Hampton."
Ezra is quiet for a moment taking it all in. "Will you call them for me?"
"Me? Ezra, I think you should call them."
"No, they might not want to talk to me. But they'll talk to you. Please, Kat?"
"Alright," she sighs. "Can I call them tomorrow? I have a ton of homework tonight?"
"Sure." He decides he can wait one more day. "Thanks so much, Kat."
"Your welcome, Ezra."

"You ready to go job hunting today?" Peter asks Scott and Shelby the next morning.
Neither one of them are eager to join the working world, but they reluctantly agree to go.
"I'm sure Annie could use some help at Rusty O'Brien's," Peter suggests to Shelby.
"Me? A Waitress? I don't think so, Peter."
Peter doesn't say anything as they climb into the truck and head towards the restaurant.
Shelby mutters incoherent words under her breath as they pull into the parking lot of Rusty O'Brien's. The three walk inside. Peter pushes Shelby towards the counter and Peter and Scott find a seat to grab something to eat.
"What can I get for you?" Annie smiles at Shelby.
"Well, I was, uh, wonder if you, uh, have any jobs available?" she mumbles.
"I could certainly use a waitress around here. You can start on Monday!"
"Great," Shelby says not too enthusiastically. "Monday it is." She walks off and sits down at the table with the others. Annie winks at Peter. He had told her they were coming.
After they eat lunch, they head out into town. They stop in a few stores with no luck. Scott finally gets a job in the local grocery store as a cashier.
With that being done, Shelby announces, "Let's go apartment hunting!"
Peter pulls out a newspaper and hands it to Scott. "Start looking."
They leaf through the paper until they come to the classifieds.
"Here's one," Scott points out. "One bedroom and one bath. Includes heat. Let's check it out."
Scott gives Peter the address, they turn the truck around, and head towards the apartment."
Their first look of the apartment is not a good one. It's located on top of a bookstore. The brick is starting to crumble and they windows have a thick coating of dust over them. They go into the bookstore and ask someone to show them the apartment.
A lady gives them a key and instructs them to take a look themselves. They walk up the creaky stairs and open the door to the musty apartment.
The living room is a good size, but there are stains on the walls and cobwebs in the corners. The kitchen is small. There is a counter, but no room for a table. There is a refrigerator, oven, and a leaky sink. The bedroom and bathroom are in the same shape as the rest of the apartment.
Scott starts flipping through the classifieds, but then closes them reluctantly. "Looks like this is the only place we'll be able to afford."
Shelby looks around with a look of disgust on her face. "I suppose if we clean it up, it'll be livable."
"Your father said he's make the down payment," Peter informs Scott. "But then you two will have to pay the rest."
Scott puts his arm around Shelby's shoulders. "Looks like we're getting our first apartment."

I know that looking for birth parents can take months and even years. But for the purpose of this story, it only took a few days, otherwise this story would drag on forever! :)
