This story is dedicated to AnidoriK!! My best friend and an awesome writer! :)

She didn't mind really. When Selia would take over the conversation, when people would look to Selia instead of her for words. So she just kept to herself, because talking wasn't her thing anyway. Not like Selia. Never like Selia.

She much preferred the swans to real people. She much preferred the wind.

When Selia proclaimed her love for Jeremy. A boy who cared for the horses, even though she herself had always been fond of him, she didn't say a word, but she smiled and said of how happy she was for them, and she really was happy for them. Because Selia deserved someone so honest and true, because Jeremy deserved someone so pretty and charming. Because being charming wasn't her way, not like Selia. Never like Selia.

She much preferred to support her. She much preferred to keep quiet.

And when she sat with her geese all those years later, she sometimes wished that she had spoken up. Just once really, just one time. But Selia's words were twisted and barbed, like roses that had been fed with poison. And she wished even harder that she had said something. But she hadn't been poison like Selia. Never like Selia.

When she saw the head of Falada, mounted there on her wall, she wished that she had stopped her. Stopped her from hurting her, stopped her from taking away her life, stopped her for taking away Falada's. But she hadn't been a snake like Selia. Never like Selia.

And when she saw her there dressed in royal garb, when the snake tried to make her waver, when she said that she had never been princess, she wished she had slapped her when she had the chance. But she hadn't known like Selia. Never like Selia.

So when Selia was defeated, when she was dragged toward Ani like the trash she was, Ani was happy, for the first time in such a long time, she was truly happy. Because she hadn't lost like Selia. Never like Selia.
