Summer Can Be Nice

Booth watched as a butterfly darted in front of them. They are walking along the path in the park closest to her apartment after a particularly long case.

"Summer is nearly here," Brennan observes.

He nods, feeling quiet.

"I will miss Spring," she says.

"Summer can be nice," he offers.

Her arm swings out to touch his gently. He bumps her shoulder with his- a sign of camaraderie.

"Spring is so simple and easy. Summer is hot."

He nods again, still quiet.

She walks ahead of him slightly and turns to face him, walking backward.

"Why are you so quiet?" she teases.

An impish grin takes his face.

"I don't know. I am just trying to enjoy this. Right now."

A small smile makes its way to her face.

"I am enjoying this too. This is nice."

She says the last part as if it is a question.

"This is nice," he says, hoping to sound firm.

She falls back into step with him. They round a corner in the path.

"Who would have thought when we first met that we would be here?" he muses.

She looks at his face, he is looking heavenward- smiling.

"Not me."

"Am I still a rat bastard?" he asks, looking at her and smiling his lopsided smile.

"No," she answers simply.

He takes her hand and thinks how nice it would be to hold it all the time; whenever he wanted.

"Summer can be nice," he repeats, bringing their conversation full circle.

She mumbles an agreement.

"I don't know if I like change," she says after a moment of silence.

He stops and looks at her, she is forced to stop as well (he still holds her hand).

"Change can be good sometimes," he says meaningfully.

She nods, pensive.

"Summer can be nice," she agrees.

A/N: Hope you liked it- just something I drummed out last night. Reviews are love.
