Disclaimer: I do not own, nor am I in anyway associated with Ubisoft Montreal or the PoP Franchise, that being said, I really like the games, even though the endings are a bit, odd. As noted in the description, this short piece was inspired by the Allison Krauss/Union Station song. I heard the song right after finishing the fight with the Concubine where you have to jump off the tower so Elikia can save you and break the Concubine's spell, and it just seemed really appropriate. Hope you enjoy it, and leave a comment to let me know what you think!
When You Say Nothing at All
The smile on your face, lets me know that you need me.
He wiped the sweat from his brow, enjoying the cool breeze that swept over the Fertile Ground as she healed it. Kneeling by her side as she caught her breath, he placed a hand on her shoulder. "Are you okay?" She nodded, still a bit weaker, and allowed him to help her up. Her eyes sought his, and the small smile on her face was all the thanks he needed for the help he gave her.
There's a truth in your eyes, saying you'll never leave me.
She scowled at him, waving one arm in an expansive gesture towards the outside world. "Look, I can do just fine on my own thank you. You don't want to stay? Fine, just go, it'll be safer for you to leave anyways!"
"Oh, really? I just might do that then."
She hated it when he was like this, the complaining got on her nerves. And yet, he wasn't moving, simply standing there. "Well, why don't you get moving then?"
"Alright, I will."
His eyes though, she could see the lie there. He wasn't going anywhere.
The touch of your hand, says you'll catch me if ever I fall.
Suddenly she was gone. He glanced around wildly, hand on the hilt of his sword, but she was nowhere to be seen. The Concubine's laughter grated on his ears, and suddenly, he was surrounded. He spun slowly, confused, eight copies of her, all standing still, staring at him expectantly. "How will you prove yourself to her, little man?"
Again with the laughter. He started forward uncertainly, the paused hesitating as he turned again, trying to pierce the illusion, but it was hopeless, each was the same as the next, and all silent as paintings on a wall.
The idea came quickly, a lightning bolt of revelation, and he pivoted, charging the nearest edge of the tower and leaping madly over the edge, a scream of fear and exhilaration ripping out of him as he freefell.
He closed his eyes a breathed a deep sigh of relief as he felt the familiar feeling of her hand slipping into his.
You say it best, when you say nothing at all.
She gasped, rocking upwards as life and vitality flowed back into her body, a swirling electric blue maelstrom of power curling into her and ripping her back into life. Her eyes locked onto his, and the silence stretched between them, almost eternal until at last she whispered. "Why?"
His arms slid under her legs and back, lifting and cradling her gently to his chest as he carried her away from the temple that collapsed behind them as the newly free god reveled in his destruction of his prison.
There were no words to explain it, they both knew that.
