The night was painful. The worst in her life.

When she came out in the morning, everyone asked, "How is he?" But she only stared and walked away. Everyone knew exactly what that meant. He was gone.

Sitting by the little hill, Astrid wept. Though, they weren't tears of loss. No, they were tears of pain, and love. She couldn't help but smile at the memory, though, there were some frowns too. And it all happened in one night.

Flashback:

She sat by the bed, watching as her love's steady breaths as he lay before her. He had been injured saving his father from Dagur. Dagur had led an army to Berk, many affected. But none was as affected as her. Yes, they had won the battle, but at what cost? What was there to win for?

"I'm sorry Hiccup - you don't deserve to die. That should have been me," she whispered, tears burning trails down her pale face as she fought to take them back. She can't cry. No, she would be brave. For Hiccup, she thought.

Coughing, the man opened his eyes. "Hiccup!" Astrid yelled, hugging him.

"Huh?" he whispered, "Astrid?" She looked up, "Yes, its me."

"Don't cry," his voice was faint, as small as a whisper, but Astrid still heard his words. She wiped her tears away. "Sorry," she choked out, but tears kept rolling. Slowly, Hiccup raised his hand and wiped her tears away. "Don't cry," he said again.

He started coughing again.

"Never - he coughed - leave me. Please don't - he coughed violently - forget me," he whispered to her. Astrid shook her head, "Never."

Hiccup smiled, and kissed her softly. "You are my fore -

But he stopped right there. His hand dropped, and his eyes closed. He was ice cold.

"No, no, Hiccup! Don't die on me, please!" Astrid begged, shaking the man's body, but to no avail. He was gone. She buried her head in her hands, "No."

End of flashback.

As Astrid sat on the hill, she remembered his words. She smiled a wide smile. She looked up at the blue sky, and as the wind bleq by her, she whispered:

"You're my forever too. I'll never, ever, replace you with someone else, Hiccup. I don't care if you're protesting about this right now, but I will never leave you. I promise."

And she did. She kept her promise till she died. They say her last words were, "I'm coming, Hiccup. Death won't keep us apart."
