I had never thought of girls like I did until I met Lily Evans in my first year of Hogwarts. Somehow, girls just seemed...weak, bossy, annoying, etc. But Lily...she was something entirely perfect. Sure, she was bossy and always yelled at me, but that was only because I was, and probably still am, a prat to her. I'm working on it though. This year, our seventh year, is the last year I have to make Lily Evans fall deeply in love with me.
Lily
Today was the day we were getting our letters for our last year of Hogwarts. I would find out if I had earned the honor of Head Girl.
Anxiously, I waited all morning in the house of my dear friend, Mary MacDonald. Another one of my friends, Alice Thatcher, was here as well.
At precisely 1:47 PM, an old white owl delivered my letter and I slit the envelope open greedily. I snatched the letter out of its envelope and read, expecting to see the phrase, "Head Girl" pop up somewhere...But it was not mentioned. With tears in my eyes, I sighed, and buried my face in Mary's velvety green pillow.
"Lily? You okay?" Alice Thatcher asked concernedly. I wiped my eyes and gave her a watery smile. "Just disappointed I didn't get Head Girl." I sniffed. Mary, who was hanging upside down off of her bed, fell off promptly. "WHAT?" She screamed in outrage. "I CAN'T BELIEVE DUMBLEDORE DOESN'T SEE IT IN YOU! GIVE ME THE LETTER AND THE ENVELOPE!" She yelled. I rolled my eyes, but did as she said. She gave the letter a cursory glance, then peered inside the envelope. She squealed loudly. "YOU'RE HEAD GIRL! I can't believe you missed the badge! I knew it! Oh, who do you think is head boy? I heard that Heads have to sleep in the same quarters. Can we come live with-"
"Mary! Relax!" I said, exasperated.
"But LILY! YOU'RE HEAD GIRL! Do you have any idea how excited we are? How proud your mum and dad and sister will be?" Alice beamed at me.
I rolled my eyes. My parents would be ecstatic, but my sister had hated me since I had gotten my Hogwarts letter before first year. Yet another achievement on my part would just make her annoyed.
"But who's Head Boy?" Mary asked. I furrowed my brow. "Probably Philip Clearwater. Or, if Dumbledore were willing to see past Remus's part in the Marauders, then Remus would be my next guess."
Before she could reply, however, a large brown owl swooped by my window and tapped its beak on the glass. I opened the old window frame and took the letter it was delivering from its beak.
Dear Lily-Flower,
Hope you're having a good summer. I'll see you on the Hogwarts Express on the first of September for the Heads' meeting. Dumbledore wants us to be in Compartment 12, half an hour before the Hogwarts Express leaves. See you then.
