Into the Ocean

Cold
Hollow and grasping
Somber

And the world had never looked so dark

As it did to him in these drawling moments

One crunch, two crunch, one crunch more

When his boot-clad feet anchored to the floor.

Whispering
Breathing
Shallow

The world was hushed around him

Even the clouds had given up on

Their racket to watch in tentative

Fascination of the man who was to die.

Death
Not afraid
Lies

It was easy to tell himself that he

Wasn't afraid but with each passing

Moment he began to see more and more

Of that elusive light behind the clouds

And he wondered why he wasn't afraid

Because someone was afraid for him.

Gold
No, brown
Laughter

And in desperation he wished it was

He who was laughing but that callous

Sound echoed in his ears when he

Shut his eyes from the world around.

Flashes
Of life
And laughter

But laughing can be crying sometimes

And sometimes the tears would come

From his eyes, except it wasn't – no!

Wasn't he who was letting them flow

They came pure and innocent

Washing over him as a fresh river

Of unrequited love that stirred in

His heart, though he wouldn't admit.

One beat
Two beat
Stop

The laughter almost bubbled to the

Surface but instead it was the memories

Thoughts of her and all she had done

To him, with him,

For him

Without him…

And scintillating lanterns danced

Above his head in a beautiful ballet

That drew out of him, slow and

Purposeful, those forgotten tears.

Prideful
No weakness
Except her

And oh! what a beautiful weakness

She could be.

Rivers
Flowing, tumbling
Tangled

Because sometimes a life was a river

And his was about to flow into that

Great expanse that was the ocean

And he could do nothing but

Think of all the times she came and

Drank his waters, kneeling and

Watching her reflection flicker

Across his surface when he looked

Back at her

Because he did.

Waiting
Wishing
Wondering

When would she cast her nets back

Into his depths because he wouldn't

Admit it but he missed that feeling

Of her pouring herself into him

As he gave her what she came to

Look for, though he didn't know

What it was she was looking for

He still tried to satisfy her before

His river dried

Because it did.

Choking
Breathing

He tried

He really did try

He did.

Falling
Felt eternal

Visions of her swam through his

Eyes as his feet dropped from the

Floor

Of her innocence present in every

Wonderful action she graced him with

Of her eyes, those penetrating

Emeralds that always managed to

Captivate him in some foreign feeling

That he was once told was love but!

A thief, like he, deserved everything

But love

She poured her love into him

And he couldn't help but wonder

If that love somehow made itself

Back into her when she filled her

Cravings for the water he offered.

Darkness
Alive
No

Love was a funny feeling that he

Never bothered to understand

Until she gave it to him without

Question

And that stirring inside of him

Became something familiar

When he felt the warmth of

Her precious tears flowing

Across his face

And though he would never

Again see the beautiful light

She brought to his world

He could only hope that

She would follow his river

Into the ocean one day

Where he could give her

All of the love she could

Ask for. One day.
