Percy's POV
"Percy! Hang on!" Jason Grace ran up to me as I was walking out of the arena.
"Hey Jay. What's this?" I looked down at the plain envelope he placed in my hands.
"I don't know, Nico gave it to me to give to you." I felt butterflies erupt in my stomach. Earlier that week Nico had told me that he liked me and I was working up the courage to tell him I like him back. "He said you should wai-." I tore the envelope open and pulled the letter from inside. Tears stung my eyes before they began to flow down my cheeks as I read it out loud.
I fucked up again so this is how it ends,
A pain in my heart as I draw my art,
The blood runs red and I'll soon be dead,
I've loved you so much but you never got to know,
It's too late now I have to go,
I'm done trying to survive,
With all this pain bottled up inside,
I really have to go,
I've never felt so low,
I love you it's true,
But don't let your green eyes go blue,
You didn't know so there was nothing you could do,
This is my final goodbye,
Because while you're reading this I will die.
Jason's eyes locked on mine as my heart fell from my chest.
"Nico." We both whispered together then we ran. Jason was fast but I was faster, driven by the thought that I was too late already. When my shoulder made contact with the door it exploded inwards, throwing me into the Hades cabin.
"NICO!" I rushed to the boy and pulled him to me. He was curled in on himself and sobbed into my chest.
"I couldn't do it! I was weak! I couldn't do it!" he clutched my shirt as my shattered heart slowly returned to its rightful place in my chest.
"Nico please don't ever…" I choked down a sob. "Don't ever leave me okay? I don't want you to ever leave me." His eyes met mine briefly before ducking down into my chest. I felt him nod and pulled him closer.
