(This chapter is from Edward's point of view)
The pain is overwhelming, the burning thirst scorching my throat, ever present. Warm, liquid brown eyes turning a vibrant red search the white walls with haste. Piercing screams, writhing limbs, deep groans uttered from a parched throat through ruby red lips. A beating heart pounding franticly, slowing slowly, as the venom travels its course through her veins, seeping into her blood stream, into her system. Her face contorts into different faucets of pain. I sit here, right next to her, her hand gripping mine. Every scream, every groan that slips pasts her lips brings another rush of pain, like a knife to my heart. I want to stop the pain, to suck out the venom that I, myself, entered into her body to save her life. But I cannot take back what I've done; it's too late, even if I wanted to. One day has passed. This is the second.
I had not been hunting in a while. My eyes were pitch black. Two halves of my mind are at war with each other. Go, hunt but stay nearby. Alice will watch her. Rosalie has Nessie. You are causing yourself more pain than is needed. Go. Then the other would interrupt, But what if something were to happen to her? No, you cannot go. She needs you here. Push the thirst to the back of your mind.
All of the sudden, a calm feeling swept over my mind and the whole room. I looked to the door. There stood Jasper and Alice. Odd, I thought to myself, that I didn't hear them coming.
Edward. Alice thought, you have to go hunt.
I instantly growled, "No."
Hear me out. She thought, It isn't healthy, and you know that. Go with Jasper, you can hunt nearby. I'll watch Bella. I'll let you know if anything happens, if anything changes, I promise.
I glanced at Bella's face. It was calm for once, but only because of Jasper. I heard the pleading in Alice's voice, but that did not sway me. I looked back up at Alice.
"I can't leave her, Alice. Don't try and make me."
She let out a small sigh of defeat. It wasn't really worth a try, I know. But I thought I'd give it a shot.
As Alice and Jasper walked away, I looked back at my angel's face. It was full of pain yet again. "It'll be alright. It's almost over," I crooned to her. I closed my eyes and began to hum her lullaby.
