Doctor Who - I Hate You
By Allyson
(A/N: I do not own (or really watch) Dr Who or any other related characters)
It had been another harrowing experience for both the Doctor and Donna on the planet they were now leaving far behind. On returning to the Tardis, Donna had become quiet and withdrawn. Unwilling to admit it, the Doctor was worried about her. He found her sat on the floor near to the main control console, arms crossed defensively across her chest. Before he could say anything, she beat him to it.
"I hate you."
The Doctor resisted rolling his eyes in exasperation. "I already apologized. How was I supposed to know they were going to use us as sacrificial victims -?"
"I really hate you."
His expression froze. "No you don't."
She glared at him, instantly silencing the Doctor. When she spoke again, her voice at first was devoid of life before slowly firing up with passion.
"I hate how you contradict me. I hate how you roll your eyes at me when you've had enough. I hate how you think you're so clever when you really haven't a clue what you're doing. I hate that you use long technobabble that I don't understand and then make me feel this big when you talk to me like a five-year-old. I hate those ridiculous pinstripe suits you always wear. I hate that you are completely thick-headed when it comes to hurting peoples feelings. I hate that you push everyone away with that crap excuse that it's okay to be lonely, because it's part of some arcane Time Lord job description. I hate that you still brood for your lost friend . . . and how your eyes seem to shutter close at the mention of her . . . I hate that I worry about you every time you throw yourself in front of danger like an idiot. I hate that part of me feels lost when you're not with me. I hate that I've become so dependant on you. I hate that it's like pulling teeth to get you to laugh, let alone smile. I hate that I no longer regret ever meeting you. And I really hate that one day this will all come to an end . . . and I'll lose you."
Donna's voice had become hoarse as she trailed off, tears flooding down her cheeks. She refused to look up at the Doctor, who stood frozen in front of her still, his eyes murky with mixed emotions.
"Donna," he whispered, after a long awkward silence. "I'm so sorry."
Reaching down to her, the Doctor pulled Donna to her feet and folded her into a rib-crushing hug. Donna desperately tried to stop crying.
"What would I do without you, eh?" the Doctor asked her, voice still hushed, hugging her tighter. "I have never regretted meeting you, Donna Noble, and I am glad I have you here now."
"Even when I'm arguing with you?" teased Donna, with a watery smile.
"Especially when we argue," replied the Doctor, returning her smile. "That's why we're friends."
Seeing the uncertainty lurking in his eyes, Donna grinned. "Yes, we are, Spaceman."
The End
