Chapter 1
From their first night as husband and wife the subject of children was always on both of their minds. They spoke of their mutual desire for a child that was the perfect mix of each of them in whispered conversation between sessions of love making.
Ultimately, they decided to wait at least a year before trying for a baby. They were still in the early twenties and had hectic work schedules as they tried to 'get their feet wet' in their chosen careers.
It was on the evening of their second wedding anniversary that they tossed her packet of birth control pills into the garbage can with giddy smiles.
Before they knew it a year had gone by and they had yet to conceive. They decided that maybe they were being too casual and started watching the calendar more closely, checking her temperature daily, keeping a chart of the most optimum days for conception tucked into the drawer next to their bed. Another year went by without sucess. And then another.
They both knew it but neither wanted to say it aloud. Something was wrong. On their fifth wedding anniversary Gabriella finally spoke the words after sobbing in the bathroom with another negative pregnancy test in her hand with Troy's arms around her whispering soothing words.
They made an appointment the following week with a reproductive specialist and it didn't take a genius to read the look of sympathy on the doctor's face as he walked in with their test results.
"Gabriella , Troy… I'm afraid I have some bad news…"
