Summary: A rather silly story based on what might have happened to the first instruction book.
--------------------------------
The first thing the book realized as it's circuitry turned back on was that it was rather warm. Normally, after the new wearer turned it on, it would stay warm while the wearer held it.
Then after it was opened, the book realized it was just being looked at by the new wearer. All right, all you've got to do is punch XI98JJ.345.634 and I can download all my powers into you it thought, assuming the suit had been put on. For some reason, the book couldn't understand why, it was closed and shoved back into its holder. Hmmm... must be too crowded for the wearer to put on the suit, it mused, only to find suddenly it was falling and falling...
The book winced as it hit the ground with a thud. It kept the light on the binder on and made a chirp that only the suit wearer would hear while in it. After a few minutes, the book realized that the wearer wasn't wearing the suit. Great, now what? thought the book, realizing the suit was going to have to teach the new wearer on its own. Normally, this usually ended up with the wearer getting bumps and bruises... and a few hospital trips.
About two hours later, the book was still trying to figure out what to do as a coyote came by. Thinking the book was food, the animal tried to eat it. This made the book mad and it resorted to self-defense. After the book gave it a shock, the coyote dropped it to the ground and ran off, yelping. The book, if it could be read as such, sighed and decided that the wearer was not going to find it.
It sent out a homing signal, and was picked up by the ship so it couldn't fall into any enemy creature's hands... or crazy earthlings wanting to make a quick buck off of it. After all, while most humans didn't believe in aliens, didn't mean all didn't. Best to leave people speculating, just hope Mr. Hinkley does well protecting this garden planet mused the book as it was picked up by the alien inside before the ship again took off into the stratosphere.
