Lucas Scott sat at his senior prom, he was alone. The girl he always thought he'd go with; the one he always wanted to go with dumped him. Probably for good reason but he still loved her and he knew deep down she loved him, she was just being stubborn. And the girl he had asked to go to prom with him stood him up. He looked around for Brooke he had seen her walk in looking as beautiful in her red perfect fitting dress as she did that day in the rain when he professed his love to her. Where was she?
The call came. Brooke and Peyton were in trouble, or they were but were okay, now he really couldn't make out what the officer said. Lucas just knew to start running, he ran all the way to Peyton's house. The scene looked awful, ambulances, police everywhere, he looked at the house and he felt his heart beating faster than ever, he was scared. Then he saw them, they stood there wrapped in blankets, holding each other clearly shaken with fear written all over their faces.
They broke apart when they saw him. The boy they had fought over, the boy they both loved. They had come so close to death that night that all the fighting, harsh words and hurt disappeared. They reconfirmed their friendship; they were best friends and sisters again. While they waited for what seemed like forever for their loved ones to come to them, they held each other and spoke of Lucas. Brooke admitted she was still in love with him and Peyton admitted that she loved him, just not that way. It was for her, a game and she was sorry for having played it.
He started walking toward them and then soon was running, he ran straight to the girl he loved. When they saw him running they both kept their eyes on him. He made eye contact with his Pretty Girl and ran right to her scooping her in his arms and holding her so tight he thought his arms might break. Peyton watched as her best friends held each other and she smiled. She knew they belonged together, and she knew that this was their second, well third chance, a new beginning. When they broke away from each other Brooke looked to Peyton. She stretched her arms out and Peyton walked over to them. Lucas held them both.
Soon they were all at the scene, their friends, the people that were their family. Nathan suggested they all go back to his parent's house. There was plenty of room and no one should be alone, not tonight.
Gathered around the fire after showers and a light dinner the group stayed up all night talking and sharing their dreams with one another. Lucas held Brooke in his arms as they sat on the couch, with Peyton right next to them. Haley and Nathan shared the other couch. Mouth sat on the floor next to Rachel who reappeared for prom and Skills and Bevin shared the armchair. None of the friends asked how Lucas and Brooke ended up back together, there was no explanation required, their love was simply visible.
