A drabbley thing, first Ouran fanfic. Made as part of a music meme, the rules of which I sort of made up as I went along. Rule 1- You put your music player of choice on shuffle. Rule 2- the song that comes up is your prompt, as faithfully or loosely based as you want. Rule 3- You may put the song on infinite repeat until you have written something to your satisfaction. Rule 4- edits and/or additions may be made at a later date/time, so long as the basic fic remains unchanged.
This one was inspired by "Mobile" by Avril Lavigne.
Kaoru isn't jealous of Haruhi, not really. Despite all those performances for the fangirls at school, he and Hikaru had never liked each other like that.
It doesn't mean he isn't lonely.
The three of them share a duplex, Kaoru on the top and Hikaru and Haruhi on the bottom. It's very convenient, because then he can stay out of their way while still being there if they decide to come up and talk to him. Not like they ever will, what with their oh-so-busy lives—Hikaru is on track to becoming the head of the Hitachiin clothing empire, a position Kaoru opted out of, and Haruhi just joined a major law firm. They dart around like fish in a tide pool and spend their extra time going out for romantic dinners and doing couple-things with their couple-friends. On their way out on one notable occasion, Hikaru had glanced at Kaoru as if he was thinking about asking something. Kaoru muttered that he didn't need their sympathy, and Hikaru left without saying anything, leaving Kaoru behind sipping tea and staring alternately at the wall and the computer screen. The perks of being an author.
He knows it's creative and fun and meaningful and his dream job and all, but no one ever told him writing would be so damn solitary.
Kaoru's recently-published first book is called Found. It's about a man who finds strength to get through a tough time through random acts of kindness.
Hikaru hasn't read it yet.
I am considering a companion-fic or a slight-alteration-fic about how Kaoru wrote Found. I also have a fairly detailed plotline for Found, and am considering writing it out myself. Please give me feedback on this most fun of drabbles.
