"Where are we going?" The irritated voice of his teammate reached his ears with the same question that she has asked at least four times and they were only half way to their destination.
"It's just a little further along this path," he wouldn't give away any more information. Partially to annoy his teammate.
Tenten sighed. She trusted Neji not to lead her to someplace cruel, but it was strange for him to ask to see her alone.
They lapsed into a comfortable silence, neither of them knowing what to say, but enjoying the companionship gained through years of dealing with chaos. For once Neji was the one who broke their silence.
"We are almost there, close your eyes." Tenten closed eyes with a brief hesitation. Neji grabbed the older girl by the hand and lead her the rest of the way.
He released her hand before stepping away making sure everything had been prepared properly.
"Don't open your eyes, I have to make sure everything is ready." Neji quickly went over everything, making sure his other teammates didn't change any detail while they watched over the scene for him.
"Neji, I'm going to open my eyes." Tenten said slightly harsher than she meant, but still willing to open her eyes if her friend didn't hurry up.
"Wait," Neji ran in panic towards Tenten, covering her eyes before she could ruin the surprise. He wasn't ready to do this, he could still back out. She hasn't open her eyes-
he cut off that train of thought, he was Hyuga Neji son of Hyuga Hizashi and he wasn't going to back out.
"Neji, can I open my eyes or…" her sentence trailed off and she felt his hand retract from her face. Opening her eyes she gasped, what laid before her was one of the sweetest things she could ever remember seeing.
"I thought that before the war we could spend the day together." He knew it was selfish of him, to want to make Tenten waste, possibly her last days, with him. Neji looked down, and up, and anywhere but at his fellow ninja.
"Neji," she didn't know what to say or how to properly put into words her emotion. "I would love to spend the day with you." Tenten smiled before walking past Neji into the training grounds. Placed all around were targets, on the targets were numbers corresponding with a basket in the center of the field.
Tenten walked over to the center waiting for the explanation that Neji should have given by now. If hitting the target was the only object of the targets than this game would not last as long as Neji hoped to spend. Thinking back to the younger man she turned to see he was still standing at the entrance,
"Neji...Are you going to stand there all day or.." Tenten's sentence faded, but the question was implied.
Neji's thoughts were broken by his teammates interruption.
"I wasn't planning on standing there all day." Neji tried to defend his actions hoping she wouldn't ask.
"Are you going to explain?"
"The purpose is to hit the target, the person who hits the target closes to the center wins the corresponding basket."
"That's it," Tenten stared at Neji waiting, "if you think this competition is going to last all day." She left the 'you're wrong' out of her sentence knowing he would understand.
"No, that isn't it, I had Gai and Lee fill each basket with things, some items I picked out, and the rest I left to their discretion."
"You let Gai sensei and Lee put stuff in our baskets?"
Neji smiled, " that's the scary part."
