Watcher
In each generation there is a Slayer,
but she is different.
there is a light that surrounds her,
a light of optimism even in the darkest hour.
Too much optimism
Too much hope
especially for one who has faced mortal nightmares.
But she is different,
she has those who help her,
help her restore the former light of her soul.
The light that was there before the slayer,
before there was Angel,
before there was me.
They keep her human,
and they keep her whole.
I changed because and for her,
my love confused with that of a watcher,
a father figure.
Becoming to close,
like a moth caught in a summers light.
Watching her grow from stubborn teen
to a strong figure of woman hood.
She'll never know,
I've used my love to become a better protector,
a better me.
Whatever comes first, redemption or doomsday.
Whether she marries,
becomes a mother
or dies.
She will eternally be my Buffy Anne Summers.
