Alternative Ending 1
Katniss was shocked by the announcement. All of her hope of winning with Peeta had vanished. Only one could win, she should have known about it all along. The Capitol was to blame for this.
She took a step back has Peeta drew his knife. Katniss pulled out her bow.
"What do we do know?" Katniss asked.
"I don't know," Peeta said "I'm sure they want a winner."
"But why would we give them one, it's not like they deserve it. After all look at what they done to us."
Katniss looked down at Peeta's leg. He won't be able to make it much longer. He can't bleed forever. She then thought about the poisonous berries. They could fake eating them. It would be horrible for the Capitol if there was no winner.
"The berries Peeta" Katniss said.
"I have another idea in mind" Peeta said in a tone Katniss had never heard him use before.
Before Katniss knew it, Peeta was running at her with his knife in his hand. Katniss didn't have time to shoot him, so she took off for a tree. She knew it would be her only way of escaping. She was a great climber and knew for sure Peeta could not climb with the state his leg is in. She was even surprised at the pace in which he was moving.
Once she found a tree she scurried up it only to find that Peeta had collapsed about twenty yards back. How could he even think of doing this? The thought made her sick. Could he have been planning it the whole entire time?
She couldn't bring herself to pull the bow back and fire at Peeta. He was not unconscious on the ground. His eyes were open staring at her. Katniss decided to just leave him anyway. It's not as if he was going to make it much longer anyway. So she fell to sleep.
She awoke with pain in her right thigh. The pain startled her and she fell twenty feet off the tree to the ground. She looked down to see blood gushing form her leg and a knife stuck in the skin. Out of nowhere Peeta jumped onto her and grabbed the knife from leg and prepared to finish her off.
"Peeta, please," begged Katniss, "there's another way we can get out of this."
"No there isn't Katniss," Peeta said, "I want to be a champion!"
In a last effort of survival Katniss grabbed Peeta's wrist in which he held the knife. Even though she knew she would never be able to force Peeta back with pure strength this was her only hope. But then she remembered Peeta's leg and how it was wounded. She kicked violently at his leg and Peeta fell back in pain.
She took this opportunity to run. She ran even though the blood was escaping her leg every step she took. Because she knew Peeta was in pain she hid behind a few bushes. She took of her jacket and wrapped it around her leg. This seemed to be the only way to stop the bleeding.
She peered out behind the bush and found Peeta lying on the ground in agony. It looked as if she had made his bleeding worse. She could tell he was about to die. All Katniss had to do to win was to just stay alive longer than Peeta. After all hadn't that been the goal all along.
She tried hard to keep her eyes open, but when she looked down at the blood on her leg it kept getting harder. She continued to hear Peeta's cries of pain and began hoping they would end soon. As Peeta's howls of pain began to die down, Katniss's leg started to go numb. She knew this was a bad thing.
At that very moment, Katniss heard the cannon go off. Peeta Mellark was dead. Katniss felt sad at first, thinking about how Peeta had given her the bread. That bread was the only reason she had had hope, the only reason that she was here right now, winning the Hunger Games.
She decided to eat some victory berries, so she took several of them off the bush. When she realized what she had eaten it was too late. She had ate the poisonous berries. Doing everything she could she attempted to puke the berries out, but it didn't work. Her last thought was that this year there would be no winner of the Hunger Games.
