Chapter 1
*In Jamaica at an all girls high school*
"Hey Raiyu you look like the walking dead, wasup?" Her best friend Mishika asked me as she approached our lunch are at the back of the school under a tree, the rest of the girls pausing their conversations to take notice of her presence.
"I'm leavin' you guys at the end of the month," she replied bluntly, not being one to sugarcoat things for others.
"Suh… wat dat afi duh wid y yuh face long like donkey suh?" her other friend Kerria asked. She laughed. She couldn't help it. Everyone loves to hear when Kerria speaks. She is from the rural parish of St. Elizabeth where it is often exaggerated that they speak a different language. That's not the case though as it is only patois with the St. Elizabeth country accent.
"I'm not comin' back this time. I'm staying in Japan for the rest of my life. I'm going to transfer to a new school and I'm going to get a house for myself since my parents aren't coming but the down side is Zaku is coming too." she broke the details she knew to them.
"Well at least you won't be alone," Mishika said and gave Raiyu a weak smile.
"Memba mi barrill wen yuh guh up cuz yuh nah guh like it wen mi come hunt yuh dung wid mi machet ina mi han," Kerria spoke and the rest of them filled the midday atmosphere with their boisterous laughs. When everyone stopped laughing Raiyu spoke up.
"I am really gonna miss you guys I don't know how I'm gonna manage without you but I have to run to class now."
"Wait. If you're my migrating why are you still going to classes," another one of Raiyu's friends, Megan asked.
"What am I supposed to do while I'm still here, sit and stare into space?" Raiyu countered then continued, "I'm gonna do my exams in Japan so I have to collect all my notes, school test and exams, classwork and homework before I leave for all my subjects."
"Do you have to submit them?" Mishika asked
"Yes but online since its much faster that way" She answered
"No man Jesus di' she di teif come only fi steal and kill and destroy but him figot fi mention how teachas come fi stress, assess and depress wi," Kerria emphasized being the drama queen she was. They laughed so hard they could probably die from lack of air.
"I have training after school so you guys can feel free to head over to my place and help my mom pack." Raiyu said over her shoulder as she walked off to class.
*After school*
"Raiyu, Megan told me you're migrating is it true?" one of the girls on the schools netball team asked as soon as Raiyu stepped through the doors of the changing rooms.
"Yes" she answered.
"Yah guh weh fi real!" another girl shouted. "No di team captain a guh weh laad gad how we aguh manage fi di match dem we ave lef fi play!" she fell to ground hollering. 'Such a drama queen' she thought to herself shaking her head and watching the display with a small smile on her face.
*On the court*
They warmed up jogging laps around court and stretched. They were in the middle of 'ball drills' one minute into the 'four corner drill' when Raiyu felt a presence at beyond the fence of the court. She felt like she was being watched however she pushed the feeling aside and continued to enjoy her last few days of training with her team.
*Beyond the fence of the court*
"Is that her?" a baritone voice asked hidden in the trees outside the court.
"Yes" a lighter voice answered as the all watched the girls, specifically Raiyu, from behind their animal face shaped masks.
"She is such a doll and she's agile too. Can't wait for this mission to begin" another baritone voice commented in an almost dreamy slightly sadistic tone.
