My songfic for GlitterClan. I went under the word limit by two words! This is a tribute to BrightxCloud, with the song 'Just the Way You Are' by Bruno Mars.

"What's wrong with your face?"

Daisy's disgusted tone takes me completely by surprise. She had seemed to be such a kind she-cat when she had arrived here. Now, though, she is pulling her kits closer and eying me like I am some freak of nature.

But I guess I am.

"I-" My voice catches in my throat, and I duck my head, embarrassed. I blink back tears. "I... er.. I was attacked." She looks at me with horror blazing like wildfire in her two perfect eyes. Perfect, unscarred eyes. "By d-dogs." I turn my head away, hiding my deformity. My heart fills with shame.

"O-oh..." She says, flattening her ears to her head. "Oh..." I can read the horror in her eyes as she flinches away from me. I smile kindly and leave the nursery. My paws drag, and my heart feels heavy. I picture Daisy's beautiful face, then think of my own. Scarred. My eye, ripped out. And beauty? Lost forever, all because of an idiotic decision Swiftpaw and I made.

Swiftpaw. How I miss him... I loved him first. Before Cloudtail. And now, as I see Cloudtail smiling and laughing with Daisy, I can't help but wonder if I'm not good enough for him.

If Swiftpaw had lived, he would have loved me unconditionally. I think bitterly, picturing his handsome face. But Cloudtail? Now, when this beautiful she-cat shows up, I am left behind. I slip into the forest, alone.

As the sun goes down, I watch it fade from gold to red to deep purple, then finally to the inky black with the glowing sheen of StarClan speckling it. It is beautiful.

Hot breath stirs the fur on my neck. I don't turn around.

"Brightheart?" Cloudtail's voice is concerned.

I don't respond.

"Where were you? We always watch the stars together." He purrs, pressing up against me and twining his tail in mine. I pull away, the heaviness in my heart almost too much.

"I just thought you'd want to watch the stars with Daisy this time," I say softly.

With a thoughtful look in his eyes, he says, "Why would I watch the stars with her, when I have you?"

"You can," I say. "I mean, I'm not stopping you."

"You're missing the point," He says.

"And what is that point?"

"That I love you, not her,"

"She is so pretty," I whisper. Tears well up in my eye. "You deserve better than an ugly creature like me! She likes you! Go be with her! Go be with a beautiful she-cat. You're too..." I search for the right word. "perfect to be stuck with an ugly she-cat like me." I whisper the words, choking back sobs.

"Oh, Brightheart," He lifts his paw, wiping a tear from my cheek. "Come here." He goes to the water's edge, smiling. "Look."

I look at my reflection. My once-beautiful face is ripped in two. Scars cover it. My empty eye socket makes me want to back away.

But when I look up at Cloudtail, I smile.

"When I see your face," He sings softly, placing his paw on my scarred cheek. "There's not a thing that I would change,"

"Why not?" I cry.

"Because you're amazing," He continues to sing in his deep, clear voice. "Just the way you are."

I sob, pressing my face into his soft fur. "D-do you really mean that?" I breathe.

"With all my heart."

And then, we sit there, suspended in time, and watch the stars. Me, my Cloudtail, and my perfect face. And I vow to never wish for Swiftpaw again.
