Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter or Ron Weasley. I also do not own the Conservative Party of Canada, the Liberal Party of Canada, The New Democratic Party of Canada, or the Bloc Québécois. Stephen H and Paul M do not belong to me either. Also the opinions expressed by Ron and Harry do not necessarily reflect those of the author. Toronto Centre- Rose dale is an actual riding in Canada and to my knowledge, Harry Potter is not the NDP candidate there. This is a work of fiction and is not intended to offend anyone.

Author's note: An overabundance of election coverage made me think what would happen if Harry Potter ran for office. Which party would he support? This ides rattled around my brain while doing laundry and wouldn't let me rest until it was written. It's intended mostly for people interested in the current political spectacle occurring in Canada right now. I've done my best in terms of portraying the platforms of the various parties. I appologize for any inaccurate information, but did not have the patience to do extensvie research.

Ron Weasley entered his flat mate's bedroom to find him packing his trunk. "Going somewhere Harry?" he asked.

Harry Potter didn't pause in his packing to reply. "I've been bored, Ron. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the peace and quiet ever since I defeated Voldemort eight years ago, but now my life is monotonous. I need a new challenge."

"I can understand that Harry, but why the trunk?"

"Hermione told me about a situation that could use some help over in Canada. Ron, I know it's dangerous, but I am going to run for federal politics in the Toronto Centre- Rosedale Riding."

"What? Are you insane? Why would you do such a thing?"

"Wizarding society has become blasé. Sure, I can go out and meet anyone who I choose, but it gets really repetitive meeting the same Wizard ministers and the same officials over and over again. I can date whomever I choose, but most people look to meet the hero. I need to vanquish another foe. Ron, I'm going out to defeat the giant known as Paul."

"You can't defeat him directly. He's from LaSalle, Quebec, not Toronto"

"Oh, I know that. It's the symbolism of the seat. A community torn apart by violence and need. People searching for a hero to liberate them. Sound familiar? Wait, how did you know where Paul was from?"

"Remember I told you in second year that we had a cousin who was an accountant? I was a bit off in that. Paul is actually a politician, but as a former finance minister, I suppose I was close enough for his job."

"Interesting that he works for government, like your father and brother."

"Hermione was telling me about this election. Which party are you going to run for? Paul's party, the Liberals?"

"I don't think so. I don't agree with some of their policies, and I worry about what their restrictions on handguns would do to those of us carrying wands. Besides, these people have been in power for a while. It's not exactly a challenge."

"What about the Conservatives?"

"Again, the challenge isn't there. I also don't know what to make of their leader…or his policies."

"I admit that Stephen fellow is a little stiff, but what do you have against his policies? Some of them are good, like the choice in child care and the tax deduction for enrolling children in sports programs. Mom and Dad could have used something like that for all of us involved in Quidditch."

"I'm not convinced about his ideas on health care. With all those kids involved in sports, someone is bound to get hurt. I'm also concerned about his choice to repeal the laws concerning same-sex marriage."

"Why do you care about that Harry? Don't tell me you're gay!"

"Why does everyone keep asking me that? Just because it didn't work out with Cho in fifth year, doesn't mean I've given up dating girls. Honestly, my youth has been spent dodging Voldemort so much, that I've never had enough time to explore who I am. I've always been the Chosen One or the Boy-Who-Lived. But I think we should have the choice to marry who we choose. I can't be a Conservative. Actually, I doubt that they'd be all that enthusiastic about my magical abilities."

"Well, you can't be running for the Bloc Québécois. They don't have a candidate in that riding."

"No, and since I'm adopting Canada as my new home, I don't want it to be torn apart. They also don't have any candidates in ridings outside Quebec."

"So who are you running for Harry?"

"The NDP of course. They're the underdog, being controlled by two large powerful entities. Alone, they appear weak, but united with one side or the other; they can get a lot done. And even though it's not likely that they'll come out on top, you know they'll never give up."

"Well, it seems like you've thought this out well. Wait, can you run? You're British, and a Wizard."

"I've got dual citizenship. My mother was born there, and apparently so was I. I found the papers in the Potter family vault. Oh dear. Look at the time. I need to get to Toronto and begin my campaign."

"I wish you the best Harry. This seems like the perfect challenge for you."

"I'll see you Ron."

"Harry, just one last question. Why didn't you run for one of the fringe tickets or as an independent?"

"Well, Ron, I want a chance to win!"
