To be eternal is to have neither beginning nor end, to continue on without change or interruption. This word was perfect to describe the thing Kei had become, but the word itself was too beautiful to be used. Damned would be a better word to describe the life he lived, how he felt, and how all the guilt was destroying him from the inside. It was beginning to show in his appearance, with the bags under the eyes that he tried so hard to cover up. He didn't care about that though. Well … he tried not to, anyways.
He should have, could have, died years ago, a mere speck of ash in the wind. He would have stopped the terrible images that burned in his memory, and could leave all his troubles behind … or so he thought.
Kei could blame it on Sho. Those once innocent eyes that he looked into had convinced him to live, even for a little while at least. But why was he still alive? His mind had given up on him a long time ago, but his heart hadn't.
A sigh escaped his dry lips as he forced himself to sit up on his bed. It was best not to think about that now, for Sho would be home shortly. If the other man laid his eyes on Kei's tired form, he would surely begin to worry. Then the questionins would start, and how he hated that. The questions and worried glances he would be given were like bee stings after you stuck your hand into a particularly populated beehive. It hurt too much for words. A sound pulled him out of his reverie, knowing quite well who was home.
He came in then, with such bravado and such a smile on his perfect face that Kei almost smiled then, abandoning his saddening disposition.
"Kei!" the man cried, reminding the vampire of a young girl gorging on sugar, "Look what I bought at 7Eleven!" Kei forced his eyes to land on Sho, who was obviously waiting for him to reply before he went on.
"Yes?" he inquired, watching Sho's smile widen even more than before. Kei soon found himself dreading what the other man had in store. Sho then pulled something out of his bag, showing it off to his friend. Pocky – the man had bought Pocky again.Kei rolled his eyes, sliding himself off the bed. Shower time, before Sho could shriek even more and lapse into a fangirl-like state about Pocky. That always spelled out danger.
But, as fate would have it, today was not his day. Halfway to the bathroom, he was encircled by a pair of arms from behind, and was pulled into an embrace. Sho then spoke, not as loud before, but with his whiny voice that always had aggravated Kei since he had first met the human.
"You'll try some, right Kei?"
"No."
Moments passed, silence covering the two like an uncomfortable blanket. No, Kei told himself firmly. You know what will happen if you look back. Alas, curiosity got to the vampire as he peered over his shoulder.
There was a wail; a terrible, screechy wail that resounded off the walls like a particularly shrill piccolo.
"KEI!" Sho had big baseball sized tears running down his face. He cried like that, even now. Kei sighed, yet again. How aggravating – he went from moping around to babysitting his good friend. His eye twitched out of pure annoyance.
"Why would you want me to eat the Pocky?" Kei asked, knowing too well the answer the other man would reply with. Sho pouted childlike, reminding Kei of when he was younger.
"'Cause you're my favorite person in the world, of course!" the younger male pouted. Raising his eyebrow, Kei took the Pocky, breaking off a piece and eating it. Sho stopped crying then, his smile brighter than the sun as any onlooker would have described. Kei also smiled. Maybe this was why he lived each day.
