I tried to post this thing last night, but my computer was being stupid and wouldn't let me do it...
So, um, this is a Cinderella oneshot. It's pretty short, but I kinda like it this way. Review!
Everyone had dreams.
Everyone had hopes that they never quite admitted, not even to themselves.
She had one too.
Her wish was not a humble one, not befitting to the small life she led. But she could never make herself let go of it. It was something she longed for in the very bottom of her heart.
During the day, she hid away her small desires and immersed herself in her work. She was, after all, nothing more than a servant. She wore aprons instead of gowns and clogs instead of slippers. She swept the house and did laundry while her sisters attended balls and dances.
But at night, she could pretend she was someone else.
She would stare out her window when it was dark, her eyes looking out over the treetops. Above her, the sky would shimmer with stars, and the moon would cast a gentle glow. And far away in the distance, the castle would shine brightly, like a beacon in the darkness.
And sitting there alone in the empty house, waiting for her mother and sisters to return from their latest party, she would gaze at the remote palace and let her dreams fly.
She even wished on shooting stars, though she never expected anything to come of it. After all, what she wanted was impossible. But still, like all wishes, you just never knew.
So whenever a single speck of light arced through the sky overhead, she would look up and close her eyes, giving in to her one innocent desire.
She wanted to leave her small life behind.
She wished that some day, she could become a princess.
