A Sire's Job
He couldn't believe Mick. He wasn't kidding when he said he was watching his friend, even if he had played it off as such. No, Josef had been serious about that, but he had not thought Mick could be that stupid. Sure, normally it wouldn't have been a problem, but Mick was in the lime light now. He, they, the whole Community could not afford this mistake.
That was why, when Blondie called, he had gone to her place. He would not have allowed anyone to risk the exposure of Vampires in this city. He had worked too hard to make this area his.
Josef had been surprised by Beth's willingness to accept what he had to do to quiet this annoying human. Hell, he wasn't going to let his friend suffer, not after everything that had happened in the last few weeks. He didn't mind, hell like Mick said, killing was easy for him.
He hoped Mick understood when he did find out. Mick was smart, even with Josef's ability to lie, he would figure it out. He hoped his friend remembered what he and Blondie had done was for his own good.
He really was rooting for the two of them.
Josef gave a sad smile. Oh how they reminded him of Sarah and himself. Their actions, feelings were so similar, that he did hope. Mick deserved to be happy. Really happy. And he was, for the first time in a long time he was happy.
Josef would make sure that when the time came, since he knew it would everything would turn out okay. Blondie was too stubborn, she would want to be turned either by Mick, that would be preferred. But if his friend really denied her, Josef knew without a doubt she would turn to him next.
He did not want Beth to end up like Sarah, Mick would not be able to survive that. Hell, he didn't know if he could. The reporter had grown on him. She was not like any of the girls he would use for food. No she, she reminded him of Sarah. She had a life about her, something that Mick was slowly taking in from her and living.
So he sent those kids, useful they were given their jobs, but well they were on his payroll. Josef had found it amusing that the two complained to him when Mick took their equipment but then-he smirked-kids did amuse him, especially when Mick could have kicked their asses if he had wanted to. They did not complain when asked to take care of that human, nor would they. Vampires may not hunt humans anymore, but it doesn't mean they have it out of their system. They are Predators, and Humans, Humans will always be Prey.
