Title:Kavanagh's Reason

Author:Keenir

Prologue to 'Critical Mass' -

Kavanagh's POV

Summary:The real reason why William Kavanagh returns to Atlantis.

Dedicated to:Purpleyin, who writes so well of Kavanagh's friend.

------------------------

It does not matter that I have only the most hesitant of friend, one who is companionable, though would never be a witness for me. I take what I can get.

For all the faults of Atlantis, all the ill-advised decisions of her leadership, for all that I am persona non grata there; I return.

I must.

Not for their sakes, not for money nor power, for status or diplomacy.

Someday, someone somewhere will learn what happened there. Will hear of me, perhaps.

If I don't go back to Atlantis, nothing will be known. All those fallen will be voiceless faceless ghosts nobody's ever heard of.

Our dead, our heroes deserve so much more than that.

I'll give it to them: a future to be proud of.
