Author's Note: This is just a bit of fluff that I felt compelled to write one day.
"That's just the way it is, Bones."
Arching an eyebrow, Angela glanced up from her composite as Brennan and Booth bickered while swiftly walking past her office. Smirking, she wondered what it was this time and decided to go investigate.
Entering Brennan's office, Angela quietly watched the scene unfold before her.
Booth sighed and motioned a hand outward for emphasis, "Tradition, that's why."
Shaking her head, she countered, "Tradition that is based on males wanting to assert their dominance in society!"
"Ok, what are you two fighting about now?" Angela asked glancing back and forth between them.
"We're not fighting!" They said simultaneously.
Angela chucked as Brennan reasoned, "We're just having a minor disagreement that would be solved if Booth just let go of the notion that customs in society are static."
"In other words…" Angela looked at her best friend quizzically.
"In other words," Brennan repeated, "I don't accept Booth's logic that tradition is reason enough that the baby should have his last name."
"Ah…" Angela nodded in understanding.
Bones continued, "I think I have as much right to give it my last name." She turned her gaze back to Booth, "And you already have a son to carry on your name if that's what you're worried about."
Booth folded his arms over his chest, "It's not that. You have nine months to form a bond with it when it's inside you." He paused for a brief moment, "I feel like if it has my last name, it's easier to form my own bond."
"Booth, you are a good father and a name doesn't define your bond with Parker or this child." She placed a reassuring hand on his arm.
His voiced lowered ever so slightly, "I know but still…"
After a brief silence, Bones queried, "So, where does that leave us?"
"How about a compromise?" Their eyes darted from each other to Angela.
Booth furrowed his brow, "A compromise?"
"Yeah, like if it's a boy it gets Booth's last name. If it's a girl, it gets Brennan's."
Brennan pondered on the suggestion while glancing back at Booth, "That could be one way to simplify our situation."
Tossing the idea around in his head for a moment, he responded, "I guess we could meet each other half way."
"It's settled, then. Now, you two can start bickering about where to send it to school or whatever." Angela grinned in satisfaction.
"That's not going to be an issue. Private school will provide the best learning environment for a child." Brennan stated.
"What's wrong with public school?" Booth shot back.
"I didn't say there was – just that private schools are better." Bones protested.
Angela interjected, "Sweetie, I was kidding about you two arguing again." But, they seemed to ignore her.
Shaking her head in amusement, Angela went back to her office to finish her sketch. She knew that those two being parents together was definitely going to be an interesting site to see indeed.

A few weeks later, Brennan had just returned to the Jeffersonian from a doctor's appointment when Angela rushed up to her. "So, is it going to be Booth or Brennan?"
A slight grin crept onto Bones' face, "Brennan."
